DOGS AND DEER - During the month of March each year when a firm crust has formed after the winter's snows have settled, domestic dogs seem t0 get the urge to roam and quite often end up chasing the killing deer. The harder surface crust will usually carry the dog's weight but the heavier deer wil break through making them easy targets for marauding dogs. The does who heavy with fawn are especially vulnerable. Past incidents have shown that all breeds of dogs are capable of chasing and pulling down a deer. Please do your part to alleviate this situation by maintaining control of your pets and keeping them tied at home especially during this period and remember Conservation Officers may destroy any dog found running deer and animal owners may be charged under The Game and Fish Act with allowing their dog to run at large in an area inhabited by deer. MAPLE - Syrup demonstrations will soon be taking place in the Metro Conservation Areas of Bruce's Mill and Kortright Centre.
