Urban Affairs Minis- ter Andre Ouellet has announced that the federal funds, to be made available through Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation, will enable the Durham County Senior Citizens Lodge to realize its goal of building a row- housing complex on Station Street-in Orono. The one-storey structure will contain four bachelor units, 34 one-bedroom units, and two units specifically designed and equipped for occupancy by handicapped persons. The building will also have one of its units set aside and equipped as both a laundry and a common facil ity for tenants. The project will be operated on a non-profit basis and as many as 16 of its units will be made available for lower income -seniors who qualify for rent subsidies. Those subsidies will be shared 50 per cent by CMHC; 421/2 per cent by the Province of Ontario; and 71/½ per cent by the municipality. The Federal monies are being provided under the non-profit section of the National Housing _Act. The lban.' at an interest rate of 91/ per cent effectively reduced to eight per cent by a Federal Inter- est Reduction Grant of 10,840.90, will have its re payable portion redluced from $875,000 to $786,000 by a Federal Grant of $89,000 New Ontario Traffie Signs The, Minis try of Transportation and- Communications has announced that new symbolized "NO LEFT TURN" and "NO RIGHT TURN" traffic signs will be use in Ontario beginning, April 1, 1978. The. new signs, approved, as Canadian Standards, by the Council of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada, will depict a rea, circle with a diagonal bar on a white background, indicating a, turn in the direction of, the black arrow, is prohibited. Field tests carried out on behaîf of the council revealed many drivers experienced difficulties with the double mnessage signs (two arrow symbols) currently in use.
