Progrram Crea tes Sun&mer Jobs Students who want to run their own summer businesses to finance their education, will get extra help, agaîn this year from Venture' Capital, an Experience '78 program spon- sored jointly by Ontario business and the ýprovincial government. Venture Capital provioes interest-free boans to a maxi- mum of $1,000 to encourage students to set up their own summer businesses. The loans give enterprising individuals the opportunîty to finance their education while acquir- ing, business experience first hand. The Ontario Ministry oi Colleges and Universities sponsors and administers this program in co-operation with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Royal Bank. Now in its fifth succes- sful year, it bas progressed from 14 projects in 1973 to 71 projects in the summer of 1977, Most of last year's ventures were profitable- for their student operators.i Projects ranged fromn sealing drive- ways to manufactuèing and marketing soaps. Four astute businesswomen in Toronto designed and sold :a lne of summer fashions, reaping a profit of $7,700. One unique project involved raising steers on frozen blueberry waffles. The waste waffles were cheap and served as an excellent fattener. In Windsor, two experienced student farmers produced a $6,500 crop of green peppers. Fuil-time summer employ- ment was created for five people by two students in a Sault Ste. Marie 'venture. These two entrepreneurs turned a $1,000 loan mrto a profit of $3,300 by painting bouses.
