Low Cost Cons ulting Available to Business St. Joseph's Grade Six Holds Chilly Rummage, Sale The Grade Six students at St. Joseph's Separate School braved the chilly winds and cool temperatures' on -Saturday to hold their Rummage Sale with a good crowd on hand in spite of the weather. These two pictures show someof the action shortly after the event got underway. As teacher, Jerry O'Brien said there were many treasures on sale that changed hands as the day wore on. On the evening of Sturday, April 1 Jerusalem Lodge, A.F.& A.M. No. 31, G.R.C. held its annual Ladies Night at the Lion's Centre. A deliclous meal was served by the United Church Women and husbands f rom Enniskillen with dînner music by Mr. Ernie Archer. After dinner, the head table was introduced by Worshipful Brother Charles Warren. The memnbers of the head table included Rt. Wor. Bro. J. Norman Smythe, D.D.G.M. for Ontario District and his wife Mary, Wor. Bro. Ray Walker, Master of Jerusalemn Lodge and his wife Eleanor, Bro Robert Mutton, I.P.M. and bis wife Ruth, Bro. John Manuel, Senior Warden and his wife Dallas, Brô. Malcolm MacKenzie, Junior Warden ad his wife Geraldine, Bro. Robert Walker, newest brother of Jerusalem Lodge and son 'of the Worshipful Master and his friend Miss Rochelle Michaud, Bro. Ken Bromley and his wife Marilyn, Bro. James Farrow and his wife Theresa, Bmo. Ronald Brittain and his wife Sharon, Bro. William Eby and bis wife Theresa, Wor. Bro. Luther Welsh and his wife Margaret, Wor. Bro. Everett King and his wife Vera, Wor., Bro. Robert Hendry and his wif e Ethel, Bro. Len Jones and his wife Eleanor, and Wor. Bro. Charles Warren and his wife Eva. In his welcoming remarks, Wor. Bro. Ray. Walker welcomed the District Deputy Grand Master and hîs wife Mary as well as the other ladies present. The Toast to the Grant Master and Grand Lodge was given by Bro. William Eby and wras responded to by the Rt. Wor. Bro. Norman Smythe. The toast to the ladies by the Junior Warden Bro. Malcolm MacKenzie was responded to by the Worshipful Master's iwif e, Eleanor, who expressed her feelings of what it was like to be a Master's wife by reciting a poem which she herself wrote called "The Absent Master". This personal touch was greatly appreciated by ail in attendance. She was present-- ed with a bouquet of lovely roses by Bro. John Manuel. At this point in the evening, the Senior Warden, Bro. John Manuel, took charge as the Master of Ceremonies and a draw was held in which several t the ladies' names were drawn for door prizes. The lucky ladies were Mrs. Marilyn Bromley, Mrs. Isabelle Harris, Mrs. Eva Durham Builds Oshawa Area Works Depot Construction of a worcs department depot for the Durham Region will proceed this year onproperty in the Oshawa-Whitby area. The depot replaces two buildings now leased by the region and will cost $1.4 million. The contract for construction of the building has been awarded to West York Construction Limited, the lowest bidder on the project. Approval of the building was the result of a narrow, 13-12 Warren, Mrs. Jean Stevens, Mrs. Rosemary Merkely, Mrs. Harry Rice, Mrs. Oriole Creighton, Mrs. Evelyn Dunn, Mrs. Gertrude Fletcher, Mrs. Elizabeth White, Mrs. Nellie Creech, and Mrs. Marilyn Dow. Mrs. Wilbert Teeple drew the number which resulted in Mrs. Jessie Tink winning the floral centrepiece which had been donated by the Carnation, Flower Shop in Bowmanville. Bro., John Manuel thanked the Ennis- killen ladies who had prepared the dinner. The ladies and the Brethren of Jerusalem Lodge and their friends were then entertained by members of the Oshawa Little Theatre who performed selections from their next production, Lionel Bart's "Oliver". An assortment of solos, chorus numbers and dance routines delighted everyone and showed us quality of work of this fine Company. The, remainder of the evening was spent in dancing to the music of Ernie Archer and chatting to the pleasure of alI who attended. Low cost management con- sulting services for small business is being made avail- able this year through the Smnall Business Assistance Programi (SBAP) of the Ontario Ministry of Industry and Tourismn. The Minister of Industry and Tourism, John R. Rhodes, said the programn will involve 120 university business admin- istration students supplying counselling services to small businesses from May through August. Counselling by the graduate students covers such areas as cash management and finan- cial planning, bookkeeping systems, production schedul- ing andi cos t control, marketing and marketing research,, distribution and promotion. "The SBA Program offers business counselling at a low cost in areas essential for the success of small businesses," said Mr. Rhodes. Last year, 838 consulting assignments were completed for 764 companies. Although the typical company that received assistance was small, the combined contribu- tion to Ontario's economy is significant. 1 Business administration faculties of 12 Ontario educational institutions - Carleton University, Lakehead University, Laurentian University of Sudburv. McMaster University, University of Ottawa, Queen's University, Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, University of Toronto, University of Western Ontario, University of Windsor, Wilfrid Laurier~ University and York Univers-' ity - will be participating in the program. Students' work is closely supervised by university, faculty and is supported by services available from Ontario Miistry of Industry and Tourism specialists in technology, marketing and service industries. As it, is not intended this~ service compete with private consulting firms, businesses eligible for the service must not be in a position to engage professional consultants. Cost of the service is borne~ by the ministry, although a nominal fee is charged to the businesses uging it.
