Eagles have to win Tuesday night to stay in the series. Should that happen, the deciding game wiii be paed here tonight. By Don Wilcox Bowmanville's Port Darlington Marina and Hotel Jr. C's find themselves one game behind in the semi-final series against the Alliston Hornets after what could be described as a demoralizing weekend. They dropped both games, Friday night in Alliston by a 7-5 count, the clincher goal into an empty net, then a heart breaker 6 to 5 loss here Sunday to give Allston the g ahead game. The Eagles were not the only ones to be upset Sunday night in Bowmanville. A large number of fans arrived to see the g4me and were turned away at the doors-because of a fi-e regulations limit handed down late in the week, allowing only 970 tickets to be sold by the Eagles, leaving many disappointed fans hot under the collar to say the least. The Jr. C executive members were most upset as well because they depend on home gates to meet the expenses that escalate quickly during playoffs. The Eagles now find themselves behind the eight ball in a series that they were ,favored to win. They are finding Alliston a hard-check- ing, physical team. Especially on home ice last Friday night, their play could be compared Lo Philadelphia Flyers' bullying tactics, testing and challenging the referee for the entire 60 minutes, continually handing out illegal, bruising checks. Eagles have definitely not had the right calibre of opponents leading to this series to prepare them for HIornets' disciplined checking game as they have neutralized Eagles once potent power play. Also, Eagles' wandering out Of Position bas cost them dearly in the last two games. Barry Wbite in net for the Hornets in aIl three Alliston wins bas challenged ail Eagle shooters, moving well out Of his crease to block Eagle's drives. Bob Kozulab in net for Eagles, bas played well but was overshadowed Sunday in the game bere wbile Eagles outshot- Hornets 48 to 34. Hornets lining across . the blueline facing the Engle attackers bas posed a problem for Eagles who have elected to shoot the puck in, giving Up possession with Hornet defencemen beating Eagles to the loose- puck. One statistic finds that each team bas scored 25 goals after five games with Eagles out- shooting Hornets in nîl five games, Eagles can stili win the series but must do it the bard way having to win in Alliston Tuesday night and home Wednesdlay night. Alliston were penalized right at the start of the game in Alliston Friday night with Eagles unable to take advan- tage, then Alliston's power play clicked at the 3:07 mark, Murray White scoring from Paul O'Leary. Hornets power play clicked agaîn ut the 10: 44 mark, Pete O'Leary scoring from Bill Lencke and Scott Funston. Eagles killed the other penalties assessed to them in the first period. Captain Brian Simpson got Eagles on the scoreboard on a end to end rush assisted by Gary Dusseldorp and Dan Strike, a power play effort.. Hornet's power play clicked ut the 13:16 mark. Eagles who refused to give up, scored at the 13:14 mark reducing Hornets lead to one goal, assisted by Chris Dwyer and Gary Dusseldorp. Hornets scored the empty net insurance goal at the 19:24 mark Bill Lemcke scoring from Rick Owens and Tom Broderick. A very unfortunate accident happened to Mike Puk, father of"Eagles Ted Puk was bit in the eye by a puck whicb flew into tbe stands with no protective glass and the added hazard of low side board, Mike is ini Bowmanville Memorial Hospital. All fans wish him a, speedy recovery. In Bowmanville Sunday night,1 Hornets got the ail important first goal as it is a proven statistic that the teamn who scores first win a higher percentage of' their games. Eagles were again in a position of playing, catchup, running out of time as they did in Friday's gamne. Alliston scored at, the 6:45 mark catcbing the two Eagle defenders' going for the puck, Rick Owens scoring from Murray White and Paul O'Leary. Ted Puk tied the score at the- 7:16 mark assisted by Gary Cox who passed out fromn the corner, the play started by Dan Strike. Gary Cox gave Eagles the-go ahead ,goal- beating White along the ice on the short side, assisted by Brian Simpson, a. power play effort, time 13:07 to finish first period scoring. Alliston's Jerry Anderson, a well scouted Hornet, broke down ice 4:30 into the second period, scoring on a low drive unassisted. John Conboy gave Eagles a two goal lead ut the 6:39 mark with some heavy traffic in front of Alliston's set, assisted by Kim Rasmussen and Jerry Johnson.
