6 The Canadian Statesman, Bowma Agendas Costly Printing up agendas for Newcastle council meetings costs about $350 every two weeks. Town Clerk Joe Mcllrov said Monday, Abiril 17 that preparing 49 agendas for the bi-monthly meetings means the printing of about 5,000 pages. To cut clown on costs, the finance and administration committee recommended that agendas usually provided for the public be replaced by smaller documents summar- izing council's business. Meters Making Money Parking meters in the municipality collected a total of $3,147 last month, according to a report considered by Newcastle's finance and administration committee Monday, April 17. "It appears our revenues are increasing", commented committee chairman Jasper Holliday. The report from the town's parking enforcement officer noted that receipts from parking meters in March of 1977 totalled $2,588.73. Councillor Bruce Taylor said that he sees a decrease in parking offences while revenues fram meters are going up. Counillors in- dicated that higher fines for parking offences may be responsible for the increase in meter revenues. "It's becoming aparent that more people are using the meters as they are expected to," Councillor Taylor said. SHAWUTS A large number of ladies enjoyed last Sunday afternoon when two local girls Linda Houlden and Brenda Brock were honoured at a double bridai shower at Shaws School. Linda who was married in February and her sîster Brenda who is soon to be the bride of, John Corden, Town, are the daughters of Reg and Joan Brock of Shaw's. The school was decorated with bouquets of Spring flowers and pussy wilows and the tea table was set with a lace cloth and a pretty shower centrepiece. The comittee in charge of the event included Rose Anger, Doreen and Sally Barrie and Barbara Wood. Both Linda and Brenda were presented with dainty corsages and Rose Anger spoke on behaîf of the friends and neighbours who had gathered with lots of good wishes for both girls. Patti Van Meer assisted her cousin Linda in the un- wrapping and Janet Bragg assisted Brenda. Sarah Derby was kept busy passing gifts. Brenda graciously thanked ail the friends for theire gifts and thoughtfulness and Linda joined in thanking the committee for all their work. Special guests included Mrs. Bird, Mrs. Lyle Brock and Mrs. Howard Corden ail of Bowmanville. A dainty lunch was served by the committee with assistance from Karen BaIl and Heather Barrie. The sympathy of Shaw's and Providence communities is extended to Mrs. Gordon Barrie and her famîly in the arrangements. Two. students from Clarke High School, Lmnda Wilks and Colleen VanOverloop visited the Nursery recently. Both the staff and the children enjoyed the visitors who seem quite interested in Nursery School work. Everyone is reminded of the General Motors Exhibition of Art which will be on display at the Robt.'McLaughlin Gallery from Friday, April 28th until Sunday, ApnIl 30th. Admission is free and the gallery is open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. both Friday and Saturday but closes at 5 p.m. on Sunday. The exhibit will be multiý mnedia in nature consisting of over 100 entries including paintings. photographs, wood carvings and metal work by I G.M. employees both active and retired.
