DESERVES CREDIT - While we are talking about the great job the Eagles have done this year in reaching the Ontario Finals, consid- erable praise should go to Coach Bill Cosburn who has done a great job with this year's team, after losing six or seven of his top players from last year. The hard-working coach doesn't usually receive the credit he deserves, most of it going to the goal scorers or the goalies who keep the puck out of the net, but Bill has been a big factor in putting a winning team together and providing tbem with motivation. Congratulations. A FEATURE - attraction planned for the Durham Central Agricultural Fair to be held in Orono, September 7th - loth will be a Tractor Pull. This will be a first for this attraction. The trout could not get over the Goodyear dam so the ministry was scooping them out and transporting them to other streams a little farther north. They were hoping to have moved 300 fish before Saturday when trout season opened. Unfortunately for the fishermen of our area the ministry would not mention where exactly the gfiant-sized fish were being taken. Essex managed to narrow the lead and scored by pulling its goalie in favor of an extra attacker. Brad Dunbar got the goal scoring from Len Chittie and Mark McGuire. Don Farrow put the game out of reach, however, as he scored with only 18 seconds left to end the game. It was an unassisted effort by the Eagles' centreman. Sunday afternoon's ga-me could have gone either way as both the Eagles and Essex turned in fine performances. The Engles, though, were thwarted in their attempt to tie up the series when they allowed- a rebound to go uncovered after Koczulab had given up a breakaway goal. The first period in Sunday's contest went scoreless as each teaus concentrated on playing defensive hockey and was unwilling to commit itself. Koceulab and Chittie, for Essex, both turned in fine performances in the nets. Farrow got the Eagles on the scoreboard first at the 5:26 mark of the second from Dusseldorp and Kirk Kemp, Essex tied it up late in the period as Dave Anthony scored at 18:26 after the 73's had put a lot of pressure on the Bowmanville club. Gary Nemisz gave the Eagles back their lead at 7:40 of the third on a deflection of a Scott point shot. Craig Vanderburg also. picked up an assist on the play. Don Chittie tied it up as the Engles were caught up ice and Koczulab was unable to stop the breakaway. The game winner for Essex was scored by Jamie Crapper who scored on a rebound at the 9:54 mark. The 73's protected their lead from that point on although the Engles did have a chance to tie it up on a power play late in the period. The Eagles were disap- pointed after the game having watching their one goal lead dissipate in the third period. From here on in the team has commfitted itself to playing one period of hockey at a time and concentrating on winning the next game, Friday night at the Bowmanville arena at 8 p.m. StF.
