T rophy Winners in Legion Ladies Dart League On Saturday night' at the Le gion, members of the Ladies Dart League and Bowling League held a joint banquet that saw many members receive various awards. These ladies were the winners of the Dart League, from left to right, Helen Wallis, Capt. Trixie Brown, Linda Downey and Bernice Partner. Beuhla White was absent. Win Top Honors in Legion Ladies Bowling The Pontypool Park Board held its final Bingo on Wednes- day night. Heather Stanley was the big winner for the evening. The local Girl Guides have a new mascot. A baby girl was born last Sunday to their leader, Mrs. Laverne, Muirhead. Our congratula- tions to the Muirheads. Mr., and Mrs. Lloyd Clark were recent visitors with Mr'. and Mrs. Roy Armstrong of Lindsay. Surprise visitors at the Clark home on Wednesday were Mrs. Marjorie Lowes. Mrs. Dorothy Lowes and Mrs. Alverta O'Connell al of Peter- borough. Mrs. Fred Youngman recently attended the 35th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Worr in the Legion Hall, Millbrook. Our' Sympathy is extended to the family of the late James Moore of R.R. 3, Pontypool. Mr. Moore had been in Civic Hospital, Peterborough, for the past week. Hie passed away Saturday morning, a victim of cancer. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday. Oui' sympathy goes also to Mrs. Greta Stewart on the death of a brother in hospital, in Toronto last Tuesday. Many fromn Pontypool and surrounding area were present at the marriage of Kathy Gallagher, daughter of Mr'. and Mrs. Dan Gallagher to Jamie Willis, son of Mi'. and Mrs. Jîm Willis, in St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, Peterborough, on Friday, at 6:00 p.m. A reception-buffet followed in the Peterborough Labour the happy young couple. During the Christian Family service on Sunday morning, members of the Sunday School took part in the service. Melissa Dunford read an appropriate poem with Barrie Challice and Kevin Bryant taking the Responsive Reading. A choir of Sunday School pupils sang "He's Got the Whole Word", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" and "Jesus Loves Me." Sunday School teachers taking part were Donna Bryant, Deanna and David Smales. The date for the Anniversary Service of the Pontypool United Church is Sunday, May 28th at 11:00 a.m. A Salad Supper is planned for Wednesday,. June 7th. (See Coming Events). Mr. and Mrs. Frank Szczygiel held a wedding anniversary party at their home on Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Clark and family of Deep River were weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Clark. Laverne and Tony Clark were also Mother's Day guests. The Colonel Gray Secondary School band from Charlotte- town,P.E.I. paîd a return visit to I.E. Weldon, Lindsay, this Sast week. The members were illeted with band members from L.E. Weldon. Ed Leblanc spent the week with Michael Campbell and another one of the musicians was a guest of Wendy Penn. Pinewood Estates is a busy place these days with at least fine new homes underway in the second phase. Ail have been sold. Kevin Bryant is becoming a famous young man. He not only won first prize in the Reporter's Mother's Day Contest but the same poem won second prize in the CKLY contest. Mrs. Bryant was the proud recipient of a jeweliery box, a floral arrangement and a box of chocolates as the resuit of Kevin's lîterary talent. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Huard at the corner of Hwy. 35 and 4th line has been sold. Sir Sandford Fleming College (Peterborough Campus) held its Graduation ceremonies in Peterborough Memorial Centre on Saturday afternoon. Graduates from Pontypool were Mrs. Wayne (Dale) -Hunt, Travel and Tourism and Terry Bradley, Law and Security. Several relatives and friends attended. Congratulations to all those graduating this spring from college, university, etc. An auxiliary for- the new Manvers Communîty Centre has been formed. Members are President, Peggy Staples, Vice-President, Leah Ryley; Secretary and Phone Convenor, Linda Sytnyk; Treasurer, Carol Finney; Dining Room Convenors, Eleano r Kerr and Pat Neals; Kitchen Convenors, Darlene Mueller and Hans VanderWaart. They are busy preparing for their first major function - the Arts and Crafts Festival, June 3rd and 4th. Miss Janice Pingle of Bow- manvîlle, who has completed her first year Law and Security course at Sir Sandford Fleming College, Peterborough, is employed by Doug Pingle in the Pontypool General Store. Mr. and Mrs. Morris Jackson and Holly of Etobicoke are staying with the Fred Youngmans. Convenor Fbo Knîght prepared a tasty meal of ham and scalloped potatoes, topped off with a stabryshortcake desert. Im eitly following the supper, the introduction of the head table was made and Maurice Annaert thanked the ladies who had served. The team of Judy Bragg, Captain, Virginia Fairey, Bernice Partner, Lola Wright, Sandra Sellers and Tammie Gray were the 1977-78 Champions. Runner-up winners were Bernice Buday, Captain, Judy Bragg, Marg King,, Hilda Simnick, Meg Gibbs and Heather Gray. Low Team prizes for the lst schedule went to Joan Sutcliffe, Captain, Lola Wright, Denise Annaert, and Lil Edmondson, 2nd schedule was Onie Etcher, Captain, Joy Luxton, Hilda Simnick, Grace Murdoch and Marion Perfect. Vickie Terry was the High Average bowler for the first schedule with a 218 average and Joan Sutcliffe won the H-igh Average of 236 for the 2nÏd schedule. High, single of 349 and 390 for the lst and 2nd schedules , High triple of 863 and 879 for the lst and 2nd schedules. Low game prizes went to Denise Annaert, Mary Ciapdorp and Trixie Brown. The Most lmproved Bowler Award was present to Wendy Murdoch who improved her average by 12 pins from last year. A new trophy being f resented this year for the irst time, was the Mel McNulty Memorial Trophy. This trophy is for the Auxiliary member of the bowling league who has the closest average to 147. Marion Perfect was the recipient for this season. The following Club Awards were presented: 275 Club members were Virginia Fairey, Marg King, Joy Luxton, Wendy Murdoch and Bernice Partner; 300 Club members were Dot Bond, Judy Bragg, Bernice Buday, Onie Etcher, Mary Gray, Brenda Jones, Carol Roberts, Joan Sutcliffe, Vickie Terry and Nancy Welsh; 700 Club members were Marg King, Carol Roberts, Joan Sutclîff e, Vickie Terry and Nancy Welsh. The last play-off night of bowling was for hidden scores and these were presented by Joan Sutcliffe. According to Councillor Bruce Taylor, contrary to what the club had written in its request, it did not have the blessings of the Newcastle Recreation Department and the department was annoyed that the club had said so. The councilor also stated that he believed if the commit- tee recommended the donation be approved it would open the door to a hornet's nest of other donation requests.
