The "Grim-Reaper" has been somewhat overactive in the past week or two. Victims included two former High School students with whomn we attendcd Blackstock High School some years ago. Mrs. Lucille (Hyland) McMullen and the former Miss Pearl Wright. Also we learned with sincere regret of the untimely passing of the County Road Engineer of Northumberland County and formenly United Counties of Northumberland Durham, Mr. Bob Edmunds. To ail those who mourn we extend sincere sympathy. This week we leann of the passing of Mn. Lloyd Evans only brother of Mrs. Jack Wilson of Lindsay and extend the sympathy of the community to Lorna, Jack and family in thein sad bereavement. Elizabethville Church services wene lheld at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reg. McCool at Canton. Canton ladies made up the choir. Dr. Buchanan was our guest speaker. The weather looked veny undecided with a few drops of ramn but it cleared and we had our usual service. Dr. Bachanan spoke on Paul's letters to the Christian people. Coffee and fruit bnead was served by Canton ladies. Next Sunday services will be at Mr. and Mrs. W. Bannister's home and' Mrs. Henry Marsh will be the speaker. Mr. and Mrs. A. Mercer, Chris and Kim, Califonnia arrived at his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. Mercer's on Wednesday and will be here for two weeks. While hene they plan to go to Washington along with Mr. and Mrs. O. Mercer. Mr. and Mrs. John Quantrili moved over the weckend to his new job near Windsor. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Tnew kept littie' Michael and Sarah Boyko oven Saturday evening while their parents, Mn. and Mrs. W. Boyko, Mn. and Mrs. Boyko, Sn. attended a wedding in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. W. Brown stayed at the Rice Lake Camp whene Mr. and Mrs. E. Fowler have thein camper over the weekend. Mn. and Mns. R. Westhueser attended the Manden's wedding at Kendal on Saturday and the girls stayed with Mr. and Mrs. H. Thickson. Mr. and Mns. J. Peacock are home fromn the East Coast. Mr. Philip Mercer camped at E mily Park over the weekend. Mr. Bruce Fowler and Dennis, McMurray returned from Edmonton Sunday. Mr. and Mns. H. Thickson visited Mns. F. Lockwood Sunday night. Mrs. R. -Crombie and boys, Bowmanville, called on Mr. and Mrs. R. Mencer, Mn. and Mrs. C. Mercers on Thursday for the afternoon. Mr. and Mns. O. Mercer had a family dinner Satunday night for the famnily and had Mr. and Mrs. R. Prevost and family, Lindsay, Mn. and Mrs. J.ý Fajt, Pontypool, and Mr. Roy Beatty, Toronto to visit with Alan and Darlene and girls. Mrs. W. Terbenche, Port Hope wene at Mr. and Mrs. C. Mencen's on Saturday also at Ron Mencer's.' Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Mencer attended the wedding of her sister, Marie on Saturday so was unable to be at O. Mencer's on Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. H. Hodgins and family have- had a summer flu ail week. Garnet Rickard, Mayor of Newcastle, picks out some of Joseph Bouma's potatoes to take home for supper. Mr. Rickard was at the Bowmanville Farmers' Market Thursday afternoon to officially open it. While there, he chatted with the farmers and customers and patronized some of the staîls. The Community Conservation Centre sponsored the market and plans to hold one every Thursday until October. The market opened at 8 a.m. Mr. Bouma was one of several vendors at last week's market. Tomorrow, the centre hopes to attract even more farmers to the parking lot beside the Church Street Fire Station. NE WTONVILLE CONTINUES TO SATURDAY, AUGUST 51 Mr. and Mrs. Frank Staple- ton were attending the Auctioneers' Convention in Boston, last week and their three children stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Brown, and family. Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Bea Jones, Mrs. Mary Joncs and Mrsi. Butler of Newcastle were visitors with Mrs. Muriel Aluin of Bowmanviile. .Mr. and Mrs. F. Gilmer were among those attending the bail game in Newcastle last Monday evening, when the Orono Pee Wees played Newcastle Pee Wees (12 years of age and under). It was a w ell-matched game, as it was a "4tie", at the end of the final inning, when Ken Gilmer stole home, on a very close call - 17 runs for each team! Mrs. Mary Vinkie and Mrs. Diane Rowe and Tiffany spent a few days, last week at Koshog Lake, in the north counitny. Their husbands joined them for the weekend after which ail returned home. Mns. Eileen Harper, with Mr. and Mrs. Hollingsworth and children, were callers from California last week with Mrs. Bea Joncs. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Soules and Terry and Mrs. Edward Nott of Toronto were recent visitons here, with Mn. and Mns. Jack Elliott.
