Hope township charge of the United Church held its service of worship on Sunday morning on the lovely open lawns around the home of Mr. and Mrs. Weston Bannister, Garden Hill on Sunday morning, July 30. The breezes were cool but the sun was warm and bright, as the large congregation seated on the south side of the bouse participated in the service. MThe rguest speaker, Mrs. Margaret Marsh of Baltimore was a lesson in commitment as she stood and delivered in her usual impressive manner, a very excellent sermon on roads though handicapped by several injuries. She was assisted in the service by others as will be reported from the Garden Hill, congreg- ation in' the Elizabethville news. This has been the fifth outdoor service this summer and next Sunday's will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Gardiner, Garden Hill. On Wednesday evening, July 26, Lakeshore neighbours gathered at the home of Mrs. R.J.W. Scuithorpe to bring greetings and welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Scuithorpe, recent bride and groom who live in the cottage across the road. Better health is our wish for Tom Hodge of this area who has spent another week or more in Bowmanville Hospital. Eric and Derek were part of a sandeastie contest underway at the playground of the Newcastle Public-School on Beaver St. Friday afternoon. During the summer months, the Newcastle munieipality operates many supervised playgrounds such as this one at schools and parks across the town.
