The carnival was, organized by Randy Cowling and Rodney Sutcliffe. This photo shows Michelle Lee and some customers at the fortune-telling booth which was part -of the carnival held on two afternoons late last month. Chico Has Unusual Playmate A crow named Herbie doesn't seem to realize that dogs are its natural enemy. The crow is two-months-old and lives at the Màike Bergsma home, 75 Wellington St., where five-year-old dog Chico has become its playmnate. When 1 unfolded my lawný chair to write this bit the sight of the dried mud that fell off took me right back to that improvised park on Kerby Island in the Grand River in Brantford August 3, 1978. Back to the evening concert with my husband Paul, to hear the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra conduet- ed by the legendary Arthur Fiedier. Arthur Fiedler is 83 years of age and has eonducted the Boston Pops Orchestra for about 50 years, we understand. The thrill of seeing and hearing them live would have been memorable in itself, but the circumstan- ces of the concert and the steady three hour stream of people who thronged quietly onto the island, turned the outing înto an incredible experience. Reports estimât- ed numbers up to 50,000 people. We met one couple of our acquaintance from Bow- manville, parents of Tyrone's newest citizens. Returning from Brantford on Friday, we visited daugh- ter Dawn Vaneyk in Guelph. She was preparing to enter- tain her young brother Gary for the long weekend. While supplying the list of euchre party winners, Dick Gibbs was judiciously looking over his garden supply for entries for the up-coming Garden Shows in the area. The weather this summer is ma- king selection for entries a littie tougher job. However, we are sure that he and Ethel will be able to make a good showing with their vegetables and flowers. By the way the euchre winners are: lst Florence Kilpatriek; 2nd Lee Reeves. This was the resuit of a eut of cards to break a tie. 3rd Freda Ashton; 4th Garnet Goyne; 5th Etta Medland; 6th Ruby Tripp. Ladies low Lorna Swain; Mens low Alvin Spen- cer; 50-50 Draw Lee Reeves. Nineteen and a haif tahles were in play. Mr. Mîke Gibbs, Green- wood, Nova Scotia, spent a few days, recently with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gibbs and family. The Gibbs have a new grand-daughter, Jackie, born June 3th to Mr. and Mrs. Mike Gibbs. When we spoke to. Mrs. Gibbs, she was just about to aceompany Jack on his return to Rehabili- tation Centre, having spent the weekend at home. Treat- ment there follows his opera- tion in June. Oshawa Garden Club pre- sents their colourful hortieul- tural show and competition of vegetables and flowers at Mid Town Mail, Oshawa, Satur- day, August 12, 1978, for the enjoyment of local competi- tors and enthusiasts. Another fun thing to do for summer recreation is to attend the Kawartha Summer Theatre in Lindsay, any evening except Sundays or Mondays. A few people from Tyrone enjoy the plays there quite regularly. Church Services resume on August 2th. Summer Service hours will be in effeet however, as Tyrone and Enniskillen hold joint service at Tyrone Church at 10:30 on both Sunday, August 2th and August 27th.
