Mr. Sylvester had just completed the biggest job order in the history of Bow- manville's Canada Manpower office. Some 500 unemployed students from the Bowman- ville and Oshawa areas found last-minute summer jobs at the Canada Jam concert hield at Mospotrt on the weekend- Studeiits from the age of 14~ and up were hired to sell hotdogs, ice cream and soft drinks to an expected crowd of 100,000 rock fans. Hourly wages of $4 and commissions of up to 24 per cent were Jieing paid to the students. According to Mr. Sylvester, students hired for commission sales may have earned up to $300 for 48 hours work. "A lot of students were unwilling to take a chance on working for a commission, although they could probably earn more money," said Mr. Sylvester.
