The Group Committee held its first meeting on Sept. 20, with new Executive Officers as follows: Chairman, Tony Clements, Assistant Chairman Warren Tait, Treasurer Faye TMling, Secretary Ron-St. Pierre. The next executive for the Ladies Auxiiary are, President Diane Gregg, Vice-President Marg Maskell, Treasurer Diane Whiteford, Secretary Barb Gibson. The first meeting of the year was held at the home of Diane Gregg with many new members in attendance. The Ladies Auxiiary meet the first Tuesday' of every month, alternatingat homes of their members. October has been a very busy month for the Scouting movement. On Oct. 14 the Cubs and- Scouts were busy selling apples and holding one, of their bottle drives. The Ladies Auxiliary also held their annual Bake Sale at the Town Hall. The Bake, Sale profit was $216 and the ladies of the Auxiliary would like to thank the Newcastle Firemen for ailowing them the use of the Town Hall which they had rented for the day. Ail of the fund-raising events were very successful and ail money earned will go to the Cubs -and Scouts. The Beaver Colony are having their investments on October 16, there being ten new boys and one new leader. The Cub Pack are holding their investments on October 19, with nine new boys., lst Newcastle Scouts attended Operation Alert at Presquile Provincial Park at Brighton, on Sept. 29 and Oct. 1. The weather was lovely and the weekend was enjoyed by ail. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome ail oui, new members into Scouting, boys and parents alike and to say with their help, we will have another successful year. Rev. and Mrs. Allan Haldenby attended the Meeting of the Clergy, their wives, the retired clergy and widows of the Archdeaconery of Durham held in St. John's Bowmanvile on Friday, Oct. 13. Bishop Allan Read and Mrs. Read were hosts. Bishop Read spoke about Edward the Confessor at the Communion and then gave an illustrated ,talk on their journey to the Lambeth Conference this past summer. Lunch was at the Darlington Marina and was a Urne of good fellowship over a good meal. Clergy and their wives attended from Pickering to Brighton. Several of the people of St. George's attended the Bazaar in the Orono I.O.O.F. Hall held by St. Saviour's ACW on Saturday, Oct. 14. Many fine handicrafts were for sale and some nice prizes were won. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Yates and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Linton of St. George's attended the 'Leadership Training Seminar held at St. Peter's Cobourg on Saturday. Fifteen people attended for the Deanery. At St. George's Church on Sunday, the duet The Lord's my Shepherd was sung by Mrs. Erie Parks and Mr. Wayne Linton. Mr. Brian Dawson and Mr. Sierd De Jong were Sidesmen. The Sermon was on the Epistle Lesson about the Armour of God and spiritual enemies. We are inclined to fight people rather'than the ideas and spiritual powers behind the people. They are the real enemy of goodness. Good fellowship was had at the coffee hour afterwards. 1The young people had Bible Study at 10:30 a.m. before the Service and met in the evening in the Parish Hall. A great-, programme is underway with. various regular and special meetings planned.
