14 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 25, 1978 SkiingautMount Oj rd Mcgregor Atoms Lote to Cobourg but Down Oshawa On Tuesday evening Octo- ber l7th in Cobourg Arena the Bowmanvilie McGregor Hard- ware Atoms camfe up against one tough Cobourg team, with Cobourg getting a game misconduct penalty in the last period. Bowmanville, played a, very exciting first period with some good passing plays. Hickey scoring assisted by firnit goal for Bowmanville, assist-going to Kelly Raison; aiso a great, effort by left winger Mike Knigbt. In the second period Co- bourg got six goals with a rough period but the big Bowmanville defencemen of Chris Moroz, Warren Short, Peter Hughes and Ian Wbee- iock fougbt back and held Cobourg to only one goal in the third period, while Bowman- ville Toros scored twice more. Peter Hughes scored, assisted by Mark Hickey and Mark .Hickey scored assisted by Chris Moroz. The uine of Paul Herron, Greg Martin and Eddy Para- dis had more shots on the Cobourg net than the other two uines but was beld scoreless. Rigbt wingers Mark Smith and Dan Moriarity showing a great effort for the team. Cobourg winning 7 to 3. Toros' goalie rookie Todd Balson stopped 17 shots in 30 minutes on the ice. Goalie Ken Cameron relieved Todd for tbe last five minutes of play and stopped some bard ones. Look out Cobourg, November 1lth in Romanville. Beat Oshawa Redwings on October 2lst on home ice the Toros passing was right on and some good bard hitting resulting the, Bulîs beat the Oshawa Redwings 4 to 1. Mark Smith, who bas been working bard scored the first goal assisted by right winger Dan Moriarityand defence- man Chris Moroz in a very good passing play. Second period showed some Celebrate 5Oth Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Howard MeMullen celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary on September 3Oth with a dinner at Yelverton Church Hall followed by a party at Nestieton Community Centre given to theîi by their family. Defencemen Chris Moroz,' Ian Wheelock, Peter Hughes and Warren Short pushed the Redwings back to their own end and held them there many times but tbe star of the game was goalie Ken Cameron who stopped many shots and almost got a shutout. Our coach Warren Townsley has worked bard with the boys and their passing plays are starting to click. 1 just told mother to dust the sheif off for I think we are going to win the cup this year. Down Canadians On Sunday, October 22 in the Port Perry Arena the Major Atom Toro Bulîs didn't like the red on the Oshawa Canadians' sweaters and really went after them, especiaily Mike Knight,, wbo scored two goals and one assist. Peter Hughes defenceman, who I aimost mistook for Ian' Turnbuil, rusbed in and scored the first goal unassisted at 4:36, but the Canadians tied it up. Mike Knight scored assist- ed by Jay Kelly and some'bard' work by Kelly Balson and again the Canadians tied it Up. Mark Hickey wbo played a spectacular game for Bow- manvilie came up witb the neyt goal assisted by Mike Knight, then Mike Knight scored an unassisted goal to make the score 4 to 2 for the Toros. Rookie Todd Raison came up with somne super goaltend- ing for the Toros and bas certainly made himnself a place in ail-star hockey. The defenicemý-ri Chris Mo- roz, Peter Hughes, Ian Whee- lock and Warren Short de.- serve a lot of credit in this gameé they did a good job. Keepîng the puck out of our end.
