A 'Thp ( ...nqin 'tq.pn . Bow, ,,-nv,,iIo lê.l- har 2. 9 178 Section Two Trinity Pumpkins,' gourds, squash and munis gave Trinity Unit- ed Church hall a very festive appearance for the Thank Qffering Tea held on Tuesday, October l7th. Mrs. J. Munday elayed quiet music while the guests, greeted at the door by Mrs. L. Tomlinson and Mrs. W. Woolley, gathered and took their places at the tables beautifuliy decorated for the tea to follow. ,Mrs. S. James welcomed ahl present and called on Mrs. D. Park, leader of Unit 3, to take charge of the worship period. A quote from George McDonald, "If I can put one touch of rosy sunshine into the life of any man, woman or chiid, - I shaîl feel that I have worked with God", was the opening message. An appropriate thought for Thanksgiving was given by Mrs. D. Park followed by Scripture and Prayer by Mrs. R. Byers. Mrs. Vivian Wetherall sang a solo "Pass it On" which was enjoyed by ail. Mrs. A. Amacher accom- panied hier on the piano. Mrs. D. Austin introduced the guest speaker whom she had met while attending services at Quin Mo Lac. Mrs. Bruce came to us from the United Church office in Toronto. Although she lives in, Brampton with hier four sons. She is a university graduate and has taken a special pastoral training course which enabled hier to serve on the board of an organization known as "The Bridge". This is an organization that takes a special interest in prison inmates. There are special inmates. There are three prisons in Brampton! 1. The Vanier Prison for Women, 2. Correctional Institute for Alcoholics and Drug Addicts, 3. Training School for those younger prisoners 16 to 25. She spends a great deal of time in these three institutes. -Mrs. Bruce's topic for the afternoon talk was on stewardship. She congratulat- ed our U.C.W. on the good record we have in carrying through the Live, Love project. Stewardship must be kept alive by letting people of the church know what is going on1 with regard to missions. The United Church has published a magazine "Living Love" which it hopes to distribute to every home, telling how the funds are used as well as keeping members up to date on missions. We have one hundred midssion- aries working ini sixfeen different countries and at present, owing to inflation, we are $400,000 behind in our givings. The United Church is second lowest on the totem pole in supporting o ur missionaries. She assured us that ail the money sent to foreign countries at 'war is being handled by very competent people and distri- buted only for humanitarian use. Mrs. Wetherall again favoured us with a solo "What Shah I1 Give Thee, Master? " Mrs. A. Blair capably thanked Mrs. Bruce and Mrs. Wetherall for their part in the programme and presented each with a token of our appreciation. Mrs. S. James then conduct - ed a short business period. A bale will be packed the end of November but it was decided to discontinue packing bales next year. Mrs. R. Coombes gave a concise report of the regional meeting held in Hampton on October lSth. One hundred and thîrty interested members attended nine of which were from Trinity. Mrs.TnJames-,thanke.d2a1 stated, "Any increase in personai income taxes during the current economnic period should be regarded as both ill-advised and inconsistent with the public welfare." Mr. Cureatz' submission also acknowledged that the current OHIP subsidy scheme, though well-intended, was not performing as well as L should. Therefore, it recom- mended replacing subsidies wîth a more comprehensive tax credit system, estimated to benefit an additional haîf million tax filers in Ontario. The sumnission marks months of hearings attended by expert witnesses from both inside and outside govern- ment. Briefs w;ere receiýved fromn concerned groups across Ontario.
