HighSeholNw The Weekly SCýREECH O WL 'AnieGet Your Gun', Was Right oni Target By Lynne Alns.worth Practice makes perfect and who should know better than the cast and crew of Bowman- ville High School's 'Annie Get Your Gun.' Weeks of preparation paid off for ail concerned as the school's cast of thousands sang and danced their way into the hearts of the com- munity. Some 56 students paraded on and off the school stage, flot an easy task for any director to co-ordiate Direct- or Bob Sheridan should be congratulated on the fine job he did in putting such a large cast through its paces so smoothly. Special mention should be made of Anne Gracie's open- ing night performance as Annie Oakley. Miss Gracie shines as the country bumpkin who wins the heart of the man she loves through a shooting match. Her every movement and facial expression exudes the warmth and vitality so in tune with the character Annie Oakley. She was a perfect foil for Gwen Howarth's charact- erization of the obnoxious Dolly Tate. James Elliott was effective as the lead maie. A number of the minor characters also deserve men- tion, namely for their ability to add that little extra to a- character that brings it to life. Rob Bowman as Foster Wilson was most convincing in his portrayal of the upset hotel keeper who was fed Up With show folks running wild in his hotel. John Dilling as Mac, Charlie Davenport's hired hand, play- ed his few lines brilliantly. He had the audience laughing as hie sauntered across the stage, arms swinging and head bowed, uttering his lines in a whinney twang reminiscent of Matt Dillon's Fester. Likewise Brad H-ockin as Wild Horse managed to Lam up his non-speaking role with a few well placed expressions. Anyone catching a glimpse of Brad couldn't help but laugh. Section Two The Canadian Statesman. Bowmanville, October 25, 1978 C-ountry Behind the scenes and far from the stage sits lighting man Russel Carruthers. THE DEVIL'S TRIANGLE By Jim Francis "Hi, can 1 help you." "Yes, that is a distinct possibility." Expectant pause. "Well?" "Well what?" "How can I help you?" "I'd like some doughnuts." "What kind." "I think M'Il start with one of those. " "A triangle?" "Ya - a cherry one." "0K, what eise." "One of those." "These here." "Anything cise?" "Two of those." "Two of which?" "The raised chocolate ones." "OK. Would you like somc- thing to drink?" "A largc Sprite. Will that be al." "Va, 1 think that should do it." So hegins one more of my flot infrequent sojourns into glutonous ecstacy that take place on the nights when I'm not working. After ail, where else but in a doughnut shop can you buy sheer joy for 40c, a fair degree of happiness for 20c, and something to wash it ail down with for another 40c? Take, for example, the cherry triangle, It's not JUST a doughnut. In addition to the traditional doughnut material it has whipped cream, cherry filling, more whipped cream, whipped creamn on top, (in an intriguing pattern), and a, cherry on top of that. It would take, a will power far superior to mine to resist such a temptation. In fact, I succumb to the al too powerful side of my nature that, relishes in this sort of event far too of ten for the good of my pocket book or my teeth. If my indulgence in this sort of inane face stuffing continues il, is not altogehter unlikeiy that I will have toecal] in an exorcisi, to chase 'out, this demondof a sweet tooth. STO P BOTFI DIRECTIONS.ý FOR A SCH-OOL BUS Buffalo BiII's (Perry Rietmuller) handiebar moustache gets a trim before the show, BHS GOES WESTERN By Cathy Denny Howdy folks, as you may know by now our school has just performed the musical- comedy "Annie Get Your Gun". On Wednesday of last week their was a special western day in honor of this event. The students of the school were requested to dress in their "duds" in a salute to the play. Most of the students dressed admirably wîth their straw hats, overalîs, and cowboy boots. Students with guns were avoided for obvious reasons. There was a free pair of tickets handed ýout to the best cowboy and cowgirl. The winners of the grand prize were Carol Slute and John Wind. Even some of teachers found time to search their old wardrobes for suitable attire. Dr. Hawkins Iooked stunning in his blonde wý,Ig. Mr. Wolff looked like he just stepped off the Wagon from the last roundup. Beaver Foods also provided an oustanding western spread for, ail those famished varmints that wished to con- tribute their hard earned money. On the whole the day was a complete success and I hope you ail enjoyed the play, (if you had the good fortune or good taste to go and see it). For those of you who missed it be sure to catch the next of Mr. Sheridan's extravagan- zas.
