16- The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, October 25, 1978 Section Two Durham District Wl Fun Fair The Durham West District Women's Institute held their Fun Fair on Wed., Oct. 18, with Newtonville Branch as hostess. The eight branches of the district assisted in this successful event. Ladies were welcomed at the door by Mrs. V. Bryant, district president, and Mrs. S.* Buttery, Newtonville presi- dent. Taking the admission for the tea were Mrs. M. Prescott and Mrs. M. Wiseman. Each lady was presented with a dainty miniature white hat trimmed in gold and blue. Printed on each was Fun Fair, Oct. 18, 1978. The Newtonville Branch gave these as ,a favaur. These were pinned on yau. Mrs, Wygerde sold the tickets for the draws. The church hall was filled to capacity. It was tastefully arranged with tables for displays and Country Store. Tables and chairs also were placed sa the guests could be comfortable for their lunch. Mrs. Bryant called the crowd to arder and welcomed all. She asked all to be sure ta sign the guest book and annaunced The Participettes Bazaar the next day. The Program came first. Maple Grove Branch presented 3 mini skits. The first was a policeman settling a dispute between 3 ladies. It ended when none would tell their age. Second camre one with a bus driver having problems with the lady passengers. The final skit was portray- ing 3 ladies dining out while their husbands are away deer hunting. They frustrated the waîtress by changing their orders, and finally leavîng without being served. They decided to buy Kentucky Fried Chicken and eat at one of their homes. The poor waîtress was so vexed she fainted! These ladies took part - Florence Cryderman, 'Marjorie Prescott, Winnie Brown, Myrtle Bradley. The number from Slina Branch was well given by Rita Fraser -- called 'Bessie 's Boyle'. She was portraying a Scotch lady having a very large boyle on the place where she sits down. She finally goes ta a dactor to have it lanced. Each doctor she sees, passes her on ta another one. She is mightily embarrassed ta show it at all! The final one turns out to be a decorator, not a doctor at ail! She finally leaves in disgust, with no one giving her any assistance on thebye.-Rita can act any part, and all agreed she made it all very real, even ta showing the boyle. Blackstock ladies presented a number of T.V. commercials. Fîrst was on Pre, Natal Diapering a baby with a (cer- tain make) - Second "Under- alîs" the latest kind of Panty Hase next was on Geritol - The lady describes a very busy day, but because she takes Geritol, whe is fit for a night on the town! The Eighteen Hour Bra followed - with a model showing a very large bust. This is solved byý another lady pricking one of the baloons! A comrial oni6r Jello followed - where the children are thanking their mnother for the delicious pudding. Finally the Most comical was thePants, Pants, Pants, where the whole group paraded intight pants singing - Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum, Bum in a rythma- tic sang. The ladies who took part were, Mrs. S. Shortridge, Mrs. C. Adams, Mrs. F. Hoskin, Mrs. H. Martin, Mrs. J. Khristensen and Mrs. 'S. Van Camp. Kendal Branch put on a humorous Fashion Show of Night Clothes for cald, or (flimsy) warm weather.
