Gross sales at Durham Region's fourth annual auction of surplus and obsolete material held Sept. 30 in Ajax totalled $167,777.50. Municipalities taking part in the auction included Peter- borough, Richmond Hill, Newcastle, and Pickering. The Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority also took part, reahizing gross sales of $41,527. Gross sales for the region's works department alone were $38,495. The report er says 1978 expenses as a nd percentage of sales should be lower because of the increased - value in sales. - The newly formed Durham Region Stroke Recovery i Association is pleased to announce, that tbey will be meeting on the last Tuesday of each month. The October meeting 'will be held on Tuesday,, October 3lst at seven o'clock p.m. at The Day Hospital, Oshawa General Hospital - entrance 24 Ama Street. The Stroke Recovery Association was originated in Toronto, a few years ago, and bas grown to seven hundred members in the Toronto District alone. Branches are now being formed in Ottawa, London, Peterborough, Brant- ford and here in Durham Region. The Stroke Recovery Association - better known as S.R.A. - is composed of stroke patients, ahl determined to 9 make as much recovery as is humanly possible. The S.R.A. strives to help stroke victims return to a full productive if e, by means of encouragement, example, and friendly contact. As well, rehabilita- tion is encouraged by provid- ing emotional support te both patient and family. Once established, the Durham Region Branch of S.R.A. will carrry on witb activities similar te those in otber areas. Walter Frank's Major Pee Wees travelled to Stouffville on Oct. 16 for their league opener and were victorious with a five-to-nothîng score. The first period saw the Toros come out with their hard-hitting style of play and continuously bump alI the Stouffville lads off the puck. The Toros finally scored their first goal at the 8:48 mark when Danny Weir scored fromn Jay Sweet and Gordie Rogers. George Kennett play*jng goal for the Toros had to be at bis best and was called on te make many a good save as the Julie Lynn Luxton became the bride of Bruce William Knowlton on Saturday, Sept. 16th, 1978 at 3:30 p.m. in St. Pau's United Church, Bow- manville with Rev. Schamer- hemn officiating. The organist was Mr. Doug Dewell and the soleist was Mr. Deug Luxton. The bride is the daughter of -Mr. and Mrs. Harold Luxton, Bowmnanville and the groom is tbe son of Mrs. Marg Knowl- ton and the late Alfred of Tyrone. The bride given in marriage by her parents wone a gown of peau de soie with lace yoke and chiffon sleeves trimmed with seed pearîs. Her cap, the same, held a waist length veil and she carried a bouquet of red Sweetheart roses and baby's breath. The maid of honor was the bride's cousin Miss Tammy Luxton whe wore a turquoise gown, followed by a sister of the bride Miss Cindy Luxton, Miss Janet Knowlton, sister of groom, and Mrs. Debbie Luxton, sister-in-law of the bride and niece Christine Luxton as flower girl. They wore identical rust gowns and carried nosegays of yellow and rust mums. Best man was Mr. Pat Wernham, cousin of the groom. Ushers were Don Luxton, Bob Luxton, brothers of the bride and Peter Knowlton, brother of the groom. In tbe second period Danny Weir scored bis second goal of the game this time unassisted. At. the 4.19 mark. Deryk Clark clicked on a nice tbree way passing play from Robert Geidlinger and Jay Sweet. In the third period the Toros were hard-pressed again, as they were assessed a total of, eight minutes in penalties net including a game misconduct penalty. However the Toros were able te overceme this as tbey scored twe more mark- ers, the first at the 7.28 mark, wben Deryk Clark scored with assists going te Ray Cumming and Robert Geidlinger. The Toros rounded out the scoring at the 8.41 mark when Deryk.Clark scored bis third goal of the game assisted by Scott Heard and Roger Horns- by. The entire Toro team bas to be congratulated for tbeir fine play and goal tender George Kennett for bis shut- out.
