Mrs. Pauline Storks and Candy attended the f unerals of Mrs. Gerda Desmedt and daughter on Monday, Oct. 30. Horticultural Society Mrs. Margery Freetby, Pre- sident of the Newcastle Horti- cultural Society, informs us that the faîl plantings at Sunset Park, the Town Hall and Cenotaph, the flagpoles and cemeteries have been completed. It took much planning but there was a good group of helpers. Thanks to al those willing workers we look forward to the spring show of color. The Port Hope Society invites ail fellow gardeners to bear Ken Reves CBC radio noon's, plants man of the airways at Dr. Power School at 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6th, in Port Hope., Anglican Church News Christian Roderick, son of Melanie and Dr. Rod McAr- thur, was baptised at the 11: 15 arn. service on Sunday, Oct. 29, 1978. Brian and Karen ,Thompson and Sam and Kathy Cureatz were god-parents. The sermon deait with the fact that our Christian citizen- ship is in contrast to our earthly citizenship. Our great- er commitment is to Christ and His Kingdom. So we must be willing to give up ail things. The Eucharist was an alter- nate service that works in very well with Baptisms. The choir sang the Anthem, For Ail the Saints. The flowers on the altar were given in memory of Mrs. D. B. Simpson by her daughter Molly Estaîl and by ber sister, Olive Thorne. In the Parish Hall on Sunday evening the Fellowship Club of St. George's Anglican Church bad an old-fashioned Hallo- we'en party, ending with the Devotional for Ahl Saints' Day. Reverend Allan and Grace Haldenby were conveners. Prize winners were Betty Locke, Warren Tait, Mary Stewart Clarke, Philip Hay- man and a team led by Mary Garrod. Jenny Park sang a solo, I sing a song of the Saints of God. Warren, and Marg Tait are in charge of the meeting for Nov. 19. The Servers came to a Corporate Communion at 8:30 followed by breakfast and a short meeting. The schedules for November and December were drawn up. The Young People had a Bible Study at 10 and a handicraft meeting at night. Newcastle United Church News On Monday evening, Oct. 24, the general meeting of the U.C.W. was held in the Sunday School Hall, with a good attendance, mncluding visitors from surrounding churches. President Eîleen Allun wei- comed ahl and called on Mrs. Annabelle Rickard who pre- sented the workshop service, ass isted by Mrs. George Allin. Mrs. Marion Allin was pianist for the evening and Mrs. Joan Gosckl rendered a solo. Annabelle's meditations compared our lives to our changing seasons, President Eileen Allin then introduced the guest speaker, Rev. Char- les Kitney, Cannington, who spoke of bis missioniary work in Trinidad. His slde present- ation included pictures of homes of rich and poor, schools, flowers, trees, coffee and banana growing, a good ail-round selection. 0f interest was Rev. Kit- ney's wife's work teaching the children to play the piano. Mrs. Marilyn Martin gr'a- ciously thanked the speaker. A delicious lunch was served. On Sundaý, Oct. 29, the little cbildren passed around their UNICEF boxes as their Hal- lowe'en gesture. Rev. David Spivey's sermon, A Closer Look at Barnabas, dealt with the generosity and encourage- ment and bis leading abilities. The prayer -for the week 15, Lord, may the witness of your saints of generations past be a constant inspiration to me, and an encouragement in my own witness to the Faith. Tickets are still available for the Turkey Supper on Nov. il and Anniversary Sunday is November 12. The Thursday afternoon group of the U.C.W. meet this week at 2:30 and each lady is to bring a recipe. The members of the Hi-C held their Hallowe'en Party on Sunday evening.
