Don't forget our Remem- brance Day Service at our Cenotaph at 10:45 arn. Also our U.C.W. Bazaar, in our church hall, Saturday from 2 - 4 p.m. Newtonville Women's Insti- tute will meet at the home of Mrs. Olive Henderson, on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. Blackstock Wl.L. The November meeting of Blackstock Women's Institute met in the town hall Wed., Nov. 1 at 1 o'clock. After a dessert of apple or pumpkin pie and tea the meeting opened with the Ode and Mary Stewart Collect with the President Mrs. Skelding in the chair. The Secretary Mrs. S. Van Camp read the minutes of the last meeting. She also read a suitable memorial and a two minute silence was observed for a deceased member, Mrs. Edna Van Camp. The 4-H achievement was announced to be held in Blackstock Nov. 25 and gifts were to be given to those with necessary achievements. The prizes this year for, High School Achievement to be given to the art class since home economics and shop are not taken. Mrs. Kristansen and Mrs. F. Hoskin have taken a short course in needie point and will teach a class to anyone in the United Church basement at 1 o' dock Nov. 7, 9, 15. The next W. 1. meeting will take the form of a Christmas party with a pot luck dinner at 12:30. The meeting will be one day earlier on account of the summary day of the needie class. Mrs. H. Martin is our delegate to the Convention. The roll cali, namne a teacher who influenced my life, was well answered by ail. Mrs. K. Samelis had charge of the program on Education and commented on the mo(to "The Best Board of Education is a shingle".': The District Presîdent Mrs. Bryant from Hampton was present and spoke on "Society Ignores Cry for Help fromr Prisons". Mrs. C. Adams had a quiz on things we should know about the W. I. which reminded us of how much we had forgotten. NE WTNriLL Ghad to see Mr. and Mrs, Melville Jones home again, after their recept holiday trip to Europe and England, which was a very interesting one, by ah reports. Whihe in Germany, they had a pre-arranged dinner, with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bickle, well known in these parts. Several other friends were there, also, at the' "Holiday Inn", and after the meal, a piano was brought in, and Jean and Roy entertained everyone to a most enjoyable evening of old familiar songs, as well as some new ones. Mn. Jirn Adams was a visitor, last Wednesday, with Mr. and Mrs. Ian Brodie, at Cornwall, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alec Brodie, return- ing home to Newtonville, Thursday night. Well, Hallowe'en is over, for anothen year, and we must say it really was quite a pleasant event, this time. About ninety- five children, of various ages called, at our doon. All were clad in attractive and amusing costumes, and were polite and wehl behaved. Most of the little ones were escorted by an older person, we were glad to see, and there was no vandalism, in this area, at least. -Mrs. Mary Vinkle spent several days, last week, with Mrs. Bihl Clark, at Deep River, who had just undergone surgery, in hospital, but is progressing favorabhy. About eight Women's Insti- tute members are attending the "Neediepoint Class" at Mrs. Queenie' Fletch er's, Monday afternoons, for about three weeks. Mrs. Ethel Wright, and daughter, of Brighton, were callers with Mrs. Mary Jones, Friday morning. Major Bill and Mrs. Clarke were among those attending the Investi- ture Cerernonies, Oct. 26 in Ottawa, at Government House at which he was invested with the Order of St. John. Others attended this colorful cere- money from all over Canada, inchuding two gentlemen who were knighted, and Mrs. Conant, of Oshawa, whose husband was a former Lieutenant-Governor. She is now in her 9th year, and received the title of "Dame". The Carkes returned home after the ceremony, arriving here in time-to enjoy lunch, at our Community Hall, folhowing the W. I. Card Party. A committee has been formed to assist Bihl in his electioneer- ing campaign. Sorry we weren't able to attend the meeting at the Clarke house, Friday evening, Nov. 3. We' wish him success! Local ladies among those attending the Kirby Bazaar, Saturday afternoon, included Mrs. Lena Clysdale, Mrs. Mary- Jones,. Mrs. Rowena Tizzard,- and Mrs. Inez Boughen. Visitors with Mrs. Agnes Burley last week were Mrs. Marion Maynard, of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. E. McEwen and" Jaimie johnston, of Peterborough, and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Burley, of Newtonville. Mr. and Mrs. Reid Wood were among those attending the Twenty-Fifth Wedding Anniversary Celebration in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Andrews, hehd at Brownsdale Community Centre, on Satur- day evening. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Farrow, also attended that cehebration, at Brownsdale. Mr. and Mrs. Walhace Boughen attended the Card Party at Leskard Saturday evening, where there were nine tables'in play, and their nephew, Scott Yeo, was "High Man" , with a score of 99, inicluding seven Lone Hands! Mr. and Mrs. Ken Fletcher visited their son, Don, in Oshawa, Saturday afternoon. Sunday, the Fletchers, with their friend, Mrs. Lottie Long, of Florida, enjoyed a reunion, at the house of Mr. and Mrs. Richard MacCarl, in Whitby. Dorothy and Ray Stapleton were the Greeters at our church door, Sunday morning, and again, we were pleased to have such a good attendance. Thechoir sang the old favorite "There-,Shahl Be Showers of Blessings"', .after which the Sacrament of Baptism was adrninistered to the -following: - Christopher David Mattinson, Derek Gordon Arnold, Brian Glen Farrow, and Gail Milison, with Mrs. .Jessie Best assisting Rev. Tizzard. Our minister's sermon was entitled "Remembrance Day, 1978", and was much appreciated, as usal. Brownies meet in church hall, here, Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Girl Guides meet in church hall, Thursday, November 9 at 6:30 p.m. Sunday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Best included Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Mattinson and son, of Missis- sauga, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Mattinson, Oshawa, Mrs. Ron Menaul, Wendy and Lori and Mrs. George Walkey, ahl of Port Hope. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hender- son were Saturday evening visitors with Mr. and Mrs, Cecil Henderson, in Oshawa. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rowe and Tiffany, and Mrs. Gertie Rowe were among the relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Pew- burton, Port Hope, on Satur- day evening, to honor Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rowe, on the occasion of their Twenty-Fifth Wedding Anniversary.
