Brad'will play on the offensive line, and Stu is a goalie. LEADERS - are still needed for the OroiW Cub Pack in Orono. If interested please phone 983-9ý89. SORRY ABOUT THAT - In last week's Sportalk we said the Bowmanville Junior Redmen football team is coached by Dave Schwalm. Actually that's only haif true because the Redmen are coached by both Dave Schwalm and AI Wood-, lock. One coach handles'the defensive line and the other one takes care of the offence. Judging from the team's performance last week they must be doing a good job. Probably they'll be gettîng a caîl from the Argonauts any day now. NICK WIND - played his strongest game as a member of the Durham College basketball teamn, the Durham Lords, last week in the games against Cornwall, St. Lawrence, which the Lords won 105- 55. Nick finished the game with 18 points. Mcgregor Hardware Atome Knock Off LindsayÏ Squad 5-2 On Sat., Nov. 4th, MeGregor Hardware's Major Atoms met Lindsay for the first time this year. Bowmanvilhe opened the scoring at 1:38 in the first period with a pass from Mark Hîckey, to Peter Hughes who dropped a back hand shot on the Lindsay goalie and Danny Moriarity was right on the button to put the puck into the net. The second period produced two goals for the Lindsay teamnat 6: 21 and 8: 10. Then at 9:40 still in the second Mary Hickey got the equalizer unassisted. This young manhbas a habit of doing this, we are happy to say. So, going into the third we were ail tied up at 2 - 2. Then wvith 2:24 remaining, Mike Knight broke through assisted by Eddy Paradis and Ian Weelock. This was a picture goal, Mike outskated the Lindsay defense, then deked the Lindsay goalie out of his pants to put Bowmanville ahead 3 - 2. This was the turning point of the game. Bowmanvihle pick- ed up a penalty, Lindsay pulled their goalie, and phayed as 6men to 4 men. Unfortunately they forgot the basebaîl season had onhy just finished so with 3o seconds to go Mark Hickey put a pop fhy from behind his own blue line into the Lindsay net. Lindsay put their goahie back in and decided to play us 5 on 4. But with 4 seconds remaining Jay Kelly netted, the final goal with assists from Mark Hickey and Chris Moroz. Except for the hast 3 minutes of play this was a tight two way hockey game, with Ken Cameron coming up strong in net for the Bowmanvilhe squad. This team has shown some excellent passing phays during their ast two games. The wings are coming back, the defense is tightening up, and the forwards are showing the meaning of the word "Husshe." If we continue to improve and coach Warren Townshey says we will (so we will). McGregor Hardware's Major Atomns wihh give the "Big Guns" of this eague a run for their money this season. EagIes Tackle Stouffville in 13m3 Decision By Don Wilcox Bowmanville Port Darling- ton Marina and Hotel Junior C's defeated the visiting Stouffville Clippers by a 13-3 score. Eagles coasted the full sixty minutes because the Stouffville team was unable to apply any degree of pressure. In a game like this a team can develop a lot of bad habits wandering out of position and skating at haif speed which does littie for the conditioning which most Eagles lack. How about those Bowman- ville Junior Redmen winning the LOSSA championship in Oshawa Saturday afternoon? The team went the entire season undefeated, leading up to an exciting final game. The coaching staff is to be con- gratulated along with each player who contributed to the team's fine record. The fight for first place in the Junior C standings continues between Bowman- ville and Cobourg. In the latest round, Cobourg defeated Lindsay 9-8 in a game which could have gone either way. Under the coach- Carmsport Trailier Sales Hwy. 115 and 35 Newcastle 1977 and 1978 CHEVRON and HOLIDAY TRAILER Large selection of TRUC K-CA PS in stock SUPERIOR PROPAN E REFILL CENTRE ing of Bill Speers, the Lindsay team continues to improve and the coach hopes he wilh have a winning team before the season ends. The game between Cobourg and Lindsay took place hast Friday night. The Port Darlington Mariners travel to Port Hope for an important game on Thursday night. The Panthers are hard on the heels of the Eaghes and the Cougars in the first place battie. The arena in the hill town should be packed and the Eaghes will hopefully have a few more bodies in the line soon. If flot, they wihh be able to travel to the out-of- townl games in a van and get the whohe team inside with no probhems. Keeping up with the happen- ing s of some of the Eagle grads we find that Chris Dwyer, an Eagle from hast year, set a new record of ten assists in the General Motors League during a recent game. Ron Strike, who attends Queens University in Kingston is playing hockey for the Queens Golden Gaels. Ron commuted and played for the Eagles in the 76-77 season and is a brother of Dan Strike. Eagles play in Beaverton Saturday night and then corne home for a Sunday night game against the Little Britain Merchants. L!berly Belles, B. Osborne 15605 - 19; P. Prentice, Caruana and Hogarth each with one.i The scoring for Firth's was done by Gary Wilson with 2, Baker, Radimaker, and Hewer each had one with assist going to Mike Cornel with 2, Baker Radimaker and Humenik with one, each. Ini summing Up this great contest I would have to say that Firth's were beaten by too many penalties at crucial points in this game. In the second game of the morning there were quite a lot of penalties, but was not nearly as exciting a game as that first one. Spencer's along with Cowan's were very scrambly throughout the whole game, so as a restI Spencer's came out on top by a sébre of 6 - 4, the scoring for the victor's was done by none other than Steve Parker with 3 big ones, Howie Omiston with 2, and Bowan with one, while the assist went to Joe Knowlen with 3, Ormiston, Rice, F. Braybrook, and Howes, each had one. For the losing Cowan's the scoring was done by Abreght, Brown, Taylor and Clarke with one each. The all important assist went to Bradley Osborne, Slemon, Ahbreght, Brown and Clarke nîl had one, while Welsh picked up a pair., So in finishing alh I can say to Tim and Barry is don't give up, and better huck next year.
