Town ' s Oldest Restaurant to Get New Look Santa Drops in at Lions Centre Johnny Seto, owner of the Coronation Restaurant, helping hand. gives the painter a Bowmanville's oldest restaurant is having a face- hf t. After seven years of blue and white it's time for a change in scenery, says Johnny Seto, owner of Coronation Restaurant on King Street West. When Mr. Seto decided to renovate his restaurant he went straight to the people who count - his customers. Taking into account what each patron had to say, Mr. Seto chose a red and gold color scheme designed to give the Coronation a brighter, more modern look. The floor, ceiling, wallpaper, booths and even the table tops are being replaced. "Some customers suggested I make the Coronation into a cocktail bar - but that's not my style," said Mr. Seto. Three generations of the Seto family have been restauranteurs, but Mr. Seto may be the last unless one of his three school-age daughters decides to enter the family business. The first Chinese-Canadian restaurant in the area, the Coronation has been serving Bowmanville residents for over 51 years. The Coronation was once located across the street where the eyeglass boutique and Mother Mod now stand but the restaurant moved to its present location in 1927. An old menu from the 1920's found by Mr. Seto when he was spring cleaning will bring back fond memories for older residents who may recal going to the Coronation for a, 15 cent chocolate sundae after the Royal Theatre's matinee was over. In those days the Corunation was affectionately known as Huey's with Sing and Tomi also involved in looking after the customers. The prices and decor of the Coronation may have changed over the years, but the friendly family atmosphere emains the same.
