ShootmOut The Bowmanville Minor Pee Wee Toros, sponsored by Howard Wood# Transport, picked Up their third win of the season on Tuesday night, November 7th, when they defeated the Oshawa "AAA" Major Atoms in a shoot-out at the Children's Arena. The final score was 8 - 5 lu favor of the Toros. Bowmanville opened the scoring when Tommy McLaughlîn scored on a beautiful passing play engineered by Brent Neill. Greg Watson increased the Toro lead to 2 - 0 when he scored on a nifty solo effort. Oshawa got on the scoresheet with 4:14 remaining in the first period. The Toros' Jeff Dawson again gave Bowman- ville a two-goal margin. Assists on the goal went to his centreman Watson and defenceman Pierre St. Amand, Oshawa got a goal back with one second remnain- ing in the period. Bowmanville's Brent Neill put is team ahead 4 - 2 when he scored after being set up by McLaughlin and defenceman Glen Duncan. The scrappy Oshawa team scored twice more in this period to send the teams to the dressing rooms at the end of the second period, locked in a 4 7 4 deadlock. The Toros started the third period playing a man short, but Chris Lee scored, assisted by Brad Cruess to send his team ahead 5 - 4. Oshawa At this point, Bowmanville took complete control of the game, scoring three un- answered goals for their margin of victory. The first one came off the stick of Chris Lee, assisted by his linemates Brad Cruess and Lorne Whitmarsh; the seventh Toro goal was scored by Tom McLaughlin, unassist- ed; the final goal of the contest was picked up by Whitmarsh, assisted by Cruess with 21 seconds remaining in the game. The goaltending for Bowmanville was shared by Chris Clif ton and Alan Ulrich. This game was not one of the best by either team, as caution was thrown to the winds as far as defence was concerned. On Nov. 7, 1978 the Toros travelled to Bay Rîdges to hand themn a 4 - 0 defent in league play. The Toros came to play hockey and outshot them 14 to 7. This was a fast hardhitting game. In the first period the local boys put our team ahead with two quick goals. Kelly Armstrong scored on a pass from Chris Beck. Shortly after Mike Gallant put the goal light on for the Toros with Larry Perris getting the nssist. The only goalin the second period was scored by Christ Beck with assists to Larry Perris and Shawn Rekker. To finish off the scoring Michael Houston had a night he will remember when he scored on a penalty shot nfter one of the Bay Ridges players smothered a puck in the goal crease, The line of Mike Gallant, Larry Perris and Paul Stainton played a strong game. The goalies, David Smith and Teddy Groves shared the shut-out. On Nov. 11, 1978 the Toros played host to the Ajax team. They completely outplayed the other tenm outshooting themn 24 - 5. The final score was 9 - 1 for the Toros. In the first period Chris Beck scored on a pass from Larry Permis. Very shortly after the Ajax team tied up the score but then the Toros exploded with 8 more goals.* To finish off the fimst period Cory Sweet scored from David Faimey and Glen Campbell. In the second period goals were scored by David Fairey, Mike Gallant and Glen Campbell who scor- ed an unnssisted short handed goal.
