.91.8a Lote One, Win Two During Junior C Action By Don Wilcox Bowmanville Port Darling- ton Marina and Hotel Junior Cs played in Port Hope Thursday, November 16, with the Panthers defeating the Eagles in a 5 - 1 count. Danny Wilcox in the Port Hope, net provided the one bright spot in the game with his great goaltending. He made several outstanding saves in the first period. Port Hope were the oppor- tunists, taking full advantage of the several Eagle misses. Panthers were definitely "Iup"1 for this important game. Beat Beaiverton The Mariners travelled to Beaverton Saturday, Novem- ber 18, chalked Up a 10 - 6 win. Eagles were short-staffed witb only il players in tbe lineup but those present were given ail the ice time they could handle. Beaverf on is a new entry in the league and the team is a determined group whicb keeps skating to prove this point. They scored five goals in the second period to tie the score. The Eagles gave the Beaverton team a good lesson, in hockey fundamentals, and tbe Sunday night game in Bowmanville was a good illustration of how the Eagles put out for their new coach Paul Robinfýon in tbe team play department. The Eagles put 26 out of a possible 27 points on the score sheet. Stu Roberts, in net !or the Eagles, did not have au that many difficult shots but wben he was tested be blocked the sbots well. Another new face in the Eagle dressing room was tramner John Cook, a physio- therapist at the Bowmanville Memnorial Hospital. His assistance in helping injured Eagles is a very important cog in the wheel. In the Beaverton game, Ralph Cryderman, the leading point man in the league, was going against Brian Shaw of Beaverton, who holds down second place. Cryderman had a four point night while the rookie, Shaw, wbo is minor midge age and lives in Minden, went pointless. The Eagles scored at the fiveminute mark of tbe first period as Beaverton was returning to full strength. John Conboy scored on a pass out of the corner by Ralph Cryderman witb Brad Godfrey also assisting. Keith Holton scored the Eagles' second goal at the 12:40 mark on a draw won by Jerry Johnson, strictly a reflex action by botb players. Jerry Johnson's powerplay deflection goal at tbe 19:43 mark came from a point drive by Dan Strike. Jerry Leddy controlling the puck and also assisting. Eagles' second period scorers were Wayde Preston at 1:00 in the second period. He scored on a pin point pass from John Conboy after Dan Strike blocked the puck. Strike also assisted. Don Farrow clicked for the Eagles' second powerplay goal on a quick release wrist shot set up by Gerald Brunt and Dan STrike. The time of that goal was 15:51. Brad Godfrey scored the Eagles' third powerplay goal, moving into the slot and receiving the passout from Ralph Cryderman, shooting to low right hand corner. Point- man Dan Strike was also in on the play. Time: 18:25. The Eagles matched tbeir goal production in the third period scoring three goals once again. Beaverton produced its two goals in this period. Beaverton's Bruce Johnston picked the opening on the short side at tbe 2:08 mark assists went to Rick Huber and Norm Spinton. Jobn Conboy casbed in on a rebound on a shot by Ralpb Cryderman. Brad Godfrey also drew an assist on this goal which was scored at 5:50. Don Farrow got bis sbot away quickly once again wben he scored bis second goal of the evening assisted by Wayde Preston and Kirk Kemp. The time was 7:18., Baeverton's second goal came on a nifty break-in which caught the Eagles out of position. Dan Crockford scor- ed from Dave Gray and Rick Hubert at the nine minute mark in the third period. Finishing the Eagles' scoring, was John Kane, who possesses what they cal a heavy shot, really leaned into this one, assisted by Brad Godfrey and Ralph Cryder- man. Loque ù G a On Saturday evening, November 25th, tbe Bowman- ville Minor Pee Wee Toros, sponsored by Howard Wood Transport, defeated Markbam 4 -1 in a well-played O.M.H.A. league contest. Bowmanville jumped into a 1 - 0 lead at the 3:37 mark of the opening period when Brent Neill scored on a sharp passing play. Assit on the goal went to defenceman Glen Duncan. There was no scoring until the 8:40 mark of the middlle stanza when tbe Toros' defenceman Scott Barclay drilled one from the point. The assists on the play went to Tom McLaughlin and Chris Dreossi. Just before tbis goal by Barclay, Markham had a three-man break on the Bowmanville,>goal. Scott was the only man back and he broke thie attack up beautiful- ly intercepting a pass and bringing the puck right back into the Markham zone, cul- minating in bis goal. Less than a minute later, Markham scored their lone goal, Timr Harding the scorer. , At tbe 5:46 mark of the third period, Tom McLaugblin scored a beautiful goal, con- verting a perfect pass from winger Brent Neill. The final goal of the contest was picked up by Chris Dreossi who played a strong game. The assists went to his right winger McLaughlin. The Toros sjjowed some pretty passing plays, and also hand- ed out several ýbone-rattling checks to keep the Markbam squad off-balance througbout most of the game. Alan Ulricb was in goal for the "Transporters" and he came up with somne excellent stops to garner the victory. Each time the Cobourg teamn narrowed the score, the Eagles immediately put out the brush fire by coming right back to' take a comfortable lead. Bob Koczulab played the first two periods in net for the Eagles making three key saves early in the game. 11 Stu Roberts came in as the relief man in the final period, using his glove hand and pads to good advantage. Eagles again were short-staffed for this important game. The defencemen Wayde Preston, Dan Strike,, John Kane and Tom Dwyer, who played botb up front and back on the blueline, logged a lot of ice time. Ail played very strong hockey. Jerry Johnson had a three- goal night along with one assist. John Conboy scored two goals and had two assists whlle Wayde Preston account- ed for two goals and one assist. Port Hope has gone 13 games undefeated, getting excellent goaltending from Danny Wilcox along with full mileage fromn the Panther forwards. Cobourg is a good skating team that plays positional hockey and if tbe ice is as hard and fast as it was last Sunday the game sbould produce excellent entertainment. Port Hope had a come-from- behind win last Thursday against Cobourg in the bill Itown with a full bouse on hand. Port Hope was down 4 -l1in the first period; the team narrow- ed the count to 4 - 3 after two then scored two unanswered goals in the final period. Port Hfope has won the last three games by one goal. A statistic whicb usually goes along with higber-standing teams finds Eagles witb four shutouts in the top 13, Cobourg with four, Port Hope with three and 3eaverton with two. Eagles' other games away fromn town include a game against Little Britain Saturday night.
