As a community develop- ment worker bis primary responsibility will be one of a resource person to the various groups and indîviduals that are concerned with the issues affecting the physically dis- abled; issues sucb as the need for better housing, transporta- tion, accessibility and employ- ment. Mr. Uuksulainen will also encourage the develop- ment of sport and recreation clubs in the area. The Oshawa office will serve the areas of Durham, York and Peel, and is open to anyone wishing to become involved in programs or for information concerning the physîcally handicapped and the Ontario March of Dîmes. Three men from the charge took turns driving themn to see places of interest during the afternoon. Mr. Leonard Falls escorted them around Kendal area. This was followed by a pot luck supper in Newtonville Church Hall. There was a presentation of sldes by the Korean ministers, showing many places of interest in Korea followed by a question and answer period. Christmas carols and familiar bymns were sung. Those attending from Kendal were Mrs. Elean- or Foster, Mrs. R. Elliott, Mrs. G. Cathcart, Mrs. R. Frank and Mr. Arthur Tbomp- son. Their farewell luncheon was held in Kirby on Friday noon. Mrs. Diane Wybenga spent a few days in Toronto last week where Mr. Wybenga is a patient in St. Michael's Hos- pital. t is hoped that Minnie will soon be restored to good health. Sympathy is extended to Mrs. W. Keirs on the sudden passing of ber brother Mr. E. Green of Leskard last ýFriday. On Saturday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Ken Clark lost their home and contents by fire. A terrible loss especially at this time of year. Weekend visitors with Mrs. Margaretta Stevens were her sister, Mrs. Florence Porteous of Winnipeg also Mr. and Mrs. J. Hellebust and family of Toronto. The first Sunday of Advent was observed in Kendal Church on Sunday morning. Mrs. Peggy Frank read a paper on the meaning of the green Wreath and four cand- les for the Advent services. Pamela Frank lit the first candle. Rev. A Tizzard based his sermon from the first book of Matthew leading up to the Birth of Christ entitling bis sermon "He sure was hap- py'. The pupils and teachers of the Sunday School are preparing their Christmas program which will be pre- sented next Sunday morning followed by a pot luck lunch. The Pastoral Charge Hymn Sing is being held at Shiloh Church Sunday evening Dec- ember 17. A time for singing Christmas carols. BLACKSTOCK General Meeting U.C.W. Wednesday morniing, Nov- ember 29, the General U.C.W. held a Meeting in the Christian Education Room of the United Church with twenty-six mem- bers and 8 children present. The Morning Unit prepared a delightful lunch. Evening Unit presented a silly fashion show of 'Play on Words Fashion' which was shown at an earlier social gathering of the O.N.O. President Ruby Van Camp directed the Business meeting which was kept at a good moving pace 50 that the ladies could finish by> the noon hour. Treasurer and Secretary Re- ports were given followed by the nomination of Thelma Wright and Marlon Larmer to organize the Christmas Rifts for the shut-ins in the area. There was some discussion on a letter received from 'Opera- tion Scugog' which it was decided full co-operation would be given to. The motion was passed to raise the price of the catering service to $5 per plate with a less expensive meal at $4.50 with no juice, 1 dessert and 1 vegetable. Edith McLaughlin and Ruby Van Camp are in charge of organizing the refreshments for the Candle Ligbt Service which will be held the evening of December ,l7th. Marion Larmer made the motion for the year end donations, wichi was approved by the member- ship. Jean Adams reported that the fee for the adopted child bas been paid for six months and a Christmas present -sent. Dora Martyn and Jean Adams explained the history of Advent Season and set fire to each of the four candles representing; prepare, re- member, share and sing. In closing everyone joined in the singing of several Christ- mas Carols.
