Bowmanville Man Charged After Car Overturns IA Bowmanville man was charged with dangerous driving and driving while under suspension following an accident Thursday afternoon. Police observed a car driving at a high rate of speed along Base Line Road and radioed for assistance. About five minutes later, another police officer saw the samne vehicle speeding along the third concession towards Scugog Street. Upon pursuit it went into a ditch and rolled over. The driver escaped injury but his car was demolished. Police have charged Andrew Louws, 23, of 149 Scugog St., with dangerous driving and driving while under suspension. We extend the sympathy of the Pontypool community to the family of the late Harry Preston of Bethany. Mn. Preston, 89 years of age, passed away last Monday with funenal service from Com-. stock Funeral Home, Peter- borough, on Thursday. Burial 15 to take place later in St. Manys Cemetery, Lifford. 1Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Pleadwell on Satur- day were Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Yarrow and famiiy of Osh- awa. The Van Dam families enjoyed Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Staples, Courtice. High scores in the Teen Bowling League on Friday night were bowied by Leta Bailey 180 and Wayne John- ston 163. High doubles were Wayne Johnston wîth 299 and Leta Bailey with 275. In the Ladies' Bowling League on Monday high bowlers were Beulah Robinson with 260 and Vicki Campbell 250. High doubles were Beulah with 489 and Vicki with 434. The ladies of the Bailyduff community held a very suc- cessful tea and bake sale on Satunday afternoon. Yvonne Fallis was the winner of the gingerbread house, Melissa McQuaid won the Christmas cake, Betty Brown, the assort- ment of Christmas coo6kIeës-' and Derena Clark won the gingerbnead men. Ail prizes were made and donated by Catharine McKenzie. PONTYOOL Ruth, Joan and Ron Ric- hardson were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Glbank, Carew Apt. Lindsay. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zubowski, Lisa and Karen Seizer were in Toronto on Satunday on a Christmas shopping spree. Terry Slack spent several days last week in New York on a business trip. The Junior Ladies' Bal team held a very successful dance in the Manvers Com- munity Centre on Saturday night. Music for dancing was supplied by Bert Grant, D.J. Door prizes were won by Bill Kett, Oshawa and Greg Hut- ton, Lindsay., Mr. and Mrs. Bert Grant and family have sold their home in the village and have moved to the home vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Andy Peterson on Hwy. 35 at Ballyduff. The Petersons have moved to Woodstock, New Brunswick, where they are setting up a business selling wallpaper and Tiffany lamps. The new owners of the former Grant residence are Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Kimble who have moved here with their two sons from Oshawa. We just heard that Mrs. Gordon Strong had a very painful accident last week. She fell, cracking several ribs, and will be confined to bed for five weeks. We will add Winnie's name to the pre- viously mentioned sick and shut-ins. Winnie will be spend- ing the holiday season in her bed at her home, R.R. 2, Pontypool. Cliff, Yvonne and David Fallis were Sunday visitors with Murray and Sandra Thompson, R.R. 1, Bailieboro, following the christening of Allison Laura Thompson in Emmanuel United Church, Bailieboro. Also attending were Brian, Carolyn, Michelle and Bradley Morton of Black- stock as well as Allison's paternal grandmother, Mrs. Marion Thompson, and aunts. A speedy get-well is sent to Mrs. Orval Anderson who was in hospital this past week for throat surgery. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. McDougall of Nobleton, are helping out while Violet is recuperating. Mrs. Kay Beggs and Mrs. Dianne Porter spent a couple of days this past week with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Beggs and family in Port Elgin. On Saturday an Atom Tour- nament is being held at Manvers Arena with seven visiting teams. The play gets underway at 8:00 arn. with Manvers meeting Little Bni- tain. on Sunday it's the Kinsman Christmas Party from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with treats for ail children of Manvers and free public skating donated by Pontypool Chamber of Commerce from 2: 00 to 4: 00 p.m. Parents are requested to make an attempt to see that their children get to the Manvers Arena and Com- munity Centre. Two good hockey games were played in the Manvers Men's League. last Friday night. Pontypool won 5 to 4 over Peterborough and Yel- verton 7 to 4 over Janetville. This Friday it's Pontypool and Janetville at 8 p.m. and Peterborough and Yelverton at 9:30 p.m. Sean George, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Muller was baptized during Mass held in Pontypool United Church on Saturday evening. Father Walsh officiated for the first christening in the St. Thomas More Parish (Millbrook and Pontypool).
