The linesmen are waiting for the right moment to step in to subdue the participants who in due time went to the penalty box to repent their sins. Eagles in the last. few encounters. The Eagles are definitely playing better positional hockey, especially in 'their checking game, resulting in a great reduction of the two and three-on-ones which have occurred. The Eagles are also backing each other up on the play. Eagles once again were understaffed for this match. One thing is certain. The Eagles' forwards are getting a full diet of ice time and in no way can be bored by playing on the same line game after game. Possibly this is working to their advantage with the players developing the knack of playing with any combina- tion at a given time. The Marina crew started this game as was expected, show- ing the signs of rust on their blades from flot having played for seven days. The importance of winning faceoffs was once again demonstrated by centre Jerry Johnston winning the faceoff in the offensive zone, setting Up Wayde Preston for the first goal. Bob Koczulab in goal for the Eagles was trying for his first shutout and he made two key saves in the period, first on a 1 & TI RE LNF 299 DEAN AVE. ji~j~i OSHAWA IF~iE~I 576-1220 defensive mriscue by his mates and then on an Eagle power- play, making a good save. Dan Strike came right back scoring on a rising- shot assisted by John Conboy- and JerryJohnston. Other high- lights of the period were a good hit by John Kane catching the Beaverton for- ward with his head down and a nifty move by Dan Srike to beat that first man in his defensive zone which is a must.* Strike then set up his winger. 1 Eagles scored three goals in the second period. The first goal of the period was scored following a good move by veteran John Conboy receiv- ing a pass from Dan Strike moving into position uncheck- ed. Conboy scored on a low drive with Gerald Brunt also assisting. Brunt then deflected a shot by Rick Scott, scoring from a faceoff won by Don Farrow wîth both teams a man short. Beaverton took advantage of the Eagles double penalties when Brian Shaw scored from John Myers and Mike Farrell. Brian Simpson moved in to score on a rebound shot by Ralph Cryderman with Dan Strike also assistîng. The Eagles kept the penalty bench warm in the second period and at times it looked l ike a sure thing that suspen- sions were on the way, making themselves ineligible for the Ail-Star game next week. Fortunately, the team used self -discipline in the third mmmmuàe..
