The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, January 31, 1979 15 Good Crowd Attends K40's Wild Game Night Last week at the Legion Branch on Queen Street, a special night was held for loyers'of wild game meat. Donors had supplied the K40 Club sponsors with a wide variety of food such as elk, beaver, muskratt , salmon, bear, etc., ail of which had been prepared by experts. The participants appeared to enjoy the feast and suffered no serious after effects., Here, some of the unusual dishes'are displayed by, from the left, Peter Rines, Jack Brown. Ernie Perfect, Oscar Pingle and Bill Smith. Flying Dutchman Motor Inn travelled ta Belleville ta play in the first annual Belleville Invitational Hockey Tourna- ment which was held at the new Quinte Sports Centre. Taras' first game was against Burlington an Sat., Jan. 27th. Burlington opened the scoring anly ta have Taras tie it up less than a minute later an a goal by Barry Cullen assisted by Brian Ruddy and John Klampmaker. In the second, Darcy 'Cummings found John Klompmaker ln the slot, and John made no mistake when shaoting the puck inta the top corner of Burlington's net. With 3 minutes remaining la the periad Burlington scored ta tie it up at 2 - 2. Bath teams played well in the third period but were unable to score, which p ut the game into a sudden dleath 5 minute period. Just 31 seconds inta the avertime Bill Hogarth scored assisted by Darcy Cummings and Ed Osborne. Going all the way and playing well ln net was Paul Adams. Fiying Dutchman 2, Petes 1 Toros' second game was against Peterborough. Bill Hiogarth apenedi the scormng assisted by Brad Clemens and Brian Ruddy. This was all the scoring until midway tbrough the third periad when Peter- borough tied it up ta put the game inta overtime. At 2:30 in the sudden death overtime period Darcy Cummings made a weil placed shot ta the lower right corner of Pete's net assisted by Bill Hogarth. Playing weli in Toros' net was Mark Lee. This put Taras into the Championship against Oshawa. Oshawa 5, Fiyiag Dutchman 3 In the first, Oshawa took the lead only ta have Taras tie it Up on a goal by Barry Culen fram Ed Osborne. Oshawa scored again before the end of the period ta make it 2 - 1. In the second Oshawa dominated play and scored 2 goals ta take the lead 4 - 1. Taras neyer give Up attitude came thraugh once again with Darcy Cummings scoring assisted by Rab Kennett. Brad Clemens rang a goal post ta score assisted by Bil Hogarth and Dary Cummings. Oshawa scared with just 7 seconds lef t ta take the Championship game 5 -3. Paul Adams played well, going the distance in Taras' net. There was a trophy . for the Most Valuable Player and aur Toros' Ed Osborne was the recipient of this trophy. INestieton Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Williams visited with Mr. Bruce Heaslip at the Part Perry Community Nursing Home on Friday last, and found hlm in good spirits. Friends are pieased ta hear Bruce is daing well, getting stranger each day, and is able ta go, to the dining roam for meals. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Irvine of Bowmanviile lunch- ed with Mrs. Bruce Heaslip on Saturday, then journeyed ta the nursing home for a visit- with Bruce. Mr. and Mrs. Robbie Mairs and children were Sunday evening dinner guests with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mairs. Latest reports indicate Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Malcolm are enjoying their sojour in suny FUorida ta the fullest. Te magic" of a well deserved holiday makes life more worthwhile and gives folks a broader outlook.with varied interests. Glad ta report Mrs. W. H. (Dora) Crawford has returned home from Port Perry Hospital. A complete recovery we trust is in store for her soon. We understand Mr. Orm Hyland is a patient in Port Perry Hospital, we extend "lBest Wishes" for better health soon. IlBack Home" Always of interest ta a small country community is what- ever became of so and so - a former resident. One such is Mildred Langfeldt, now Mrs. Bill Fortune. Mildred is practicaily back home as -the Fortunes have built a home on Road 57 near Blackstack. But Nestieton dlaims her as their own as during the summer season the couple have opened a delightful boutique - "The Pink Shoppe" in the heart of the village. The Shoppe hauses only hand-crafted articles of great variety, embracing the work of forty contributors and more are welcomed. Mildred, a full time teacher at L'Amoreaux Collegiate, Scarborough, commutes over forty miles ta work and is the enthusiastic editor of her school's paper, - a position she has long wanted. Bil, now retired from teach- ing, finds life far from dull. He is involved in many interest- ing endeavours, - having a talent in art which is reflected in his interest in photography, painting and ceramics ta mention a few of his skills, - ail of which are very evident in their beautiftiI new home. The Fortunes are, as well, inveterate travellers, having covered approximately forty thousand miles during the past year. What are Mildred and Bil doing with their free weekends now that their home is finished? Are they bored? Not at ail! They are busy getting items ready for next spring's activites re - crafts for their shop. Meet Mildred and Bill at "The Pink Shoppe" came opening May 24th. The Toros tied the game at the 8.41 mark when Gordie Rogers scored from Danny Weir and Jay Sweet. At the 9.58 mark, Trenton went ahead when Cînyton, Smith scored from. Kevin William. In the second period, the Toros tied the score at the 6.01 mark on a goal by Raymond Cummings. The Toros went ahead for the first time on a goal by Jay Sweet assisted by Doug Roy and Chris, Michelson. The thîrd period belonged to the Toros as they scored three unanswered goals, the first at the 2.14 mark when Gordie Rogers scored from Jay Sweet and Mike Hamel. The Taras finished the scoring at the 9.15 mark when Robert Geidlinger scored while Mike Hamel and Deryk, Clark picked up assisted.
