And the latest crop of players and coacbes was bonored last week at a -dinner beld in tbe Ebenezer Christian Education Centre. Various teams consisting of over 60 players and coaches were among the audience. Guest speakers were Babe Brown, a Courtice resident and former bail player wbo has written a history of the Oshawa Generals Hockey Team, and Bob Attersley, a Wbitby businessman and regional councillor who is a former hockey player. Mr. Attersley told tbe audience that one of tbe biggest tbings anyone can get out of sports is good fellow- Mcâ.gregor Hrwr oo This photo shows the girls' number two team at Courtice. Oùgverpower Pot On, February 2nd tbe Bulîs fought a bard game with Aurora, at the Peterborough Liftlock Atom Tournament, wbich you will read about soon, and went straight to Port Hope for a league game, winning it 4 to 2. In a span of 31/ hours our boys played two tough hockey games, but showed no signs of being tired. No wonder they are called "The Bulîs'. Kelly Balson overpowered the Port Hope squad, scoring the first goal at tbe 6.11 mark of the first period, assisted by captain Jay Kelly. Mark Hickey then scored, assist going to Mike Knight,'Jay Kelly picked up the next goal assisted by Mark Hickey and Chris Moroz. Peter Hugbes then scored unassisted witb an end to end rush. Brown said that in 1949 Courtice had five champion- ship teams. Sbe noted that at one time there were four men's teams from the imme- diate vicinity of Courtice who played against each other. She recalled tbat the Courtice ballpark was always a busy place. A total of five teams were honored at the banquet along with coaches and umpires who' helped make last year's base- bail season possible. Major PW. n Cobourg from Ptayoffe Wal er Frank's Major Pee Wees ousted Cobourg from OMHA Playoffs with a 6 to 2 victory on Friday, Feb. 2nd. The Toros looked very shaky in the first period and allowed Cobourg to score two goals. The first goal coming at the 6:26 mark when Bill MacDonald scored from Trevor Paziuk. Cobourg made it 2 to 0 at the 7.11 mark when Mark Ito scored from Rory Quigley at the 8.32 mark of the first period on a goal by Gordie Rogers assisted by Mike Hamel and Jay Sweet. The second period went score- less until the 14.38 mark when Scott Heard scored from Gordie Rogers and Doug Brown. The third period belongedto the Toros and especially Mike Hamel as he scored three goals. The Buils went ahead for the first time at the '2.23 mark when Danny Weir scor- ed from Scott Heard and Deryk Clark. At the 3.43 mark, Mike Hamel scored bis first goal assisted by Chris Michelson. Hamel scored bis second goal of the period at the 8.12 mark with Robert Geidllnger drawing the assists. Mike scored his third goal at* the 13.22 mark with Jay Sweet and Chris Michelson picking up assists. Donny Hayes, playing goal for the Toros, seemed a littie shaky in the early going but came on strong and made many fine saves throughout the game. Doug Roy looked good !n defence throwing his weight around with many good fine checks.
