Dineen, Chief Librarian Newcastle Public Library System Although winter is stili clutching Ontario, many people are beginning to think of spring. One of the nicer festivals celebrated by Christian familles in the spring is, of course, Easter. Many books are available to describe how various groups celebrate this feast as well as the origins of this happy day. LiIes, Rabbits and-Painted Eggs This easy book for children explains the history and use of thesymbols of Easter. Easter Eggs for Everyone Details are given on equip- ment, dyes and techniques used for creating the beautiful and elaborate European Easter eggs. The Easter Book of Legends and Stories Poems and short stories from around the world high- light this collection which is suitable for adults as well as children. Easter This junior book tells why the date for celebrating Easter moves àround the calendar and discusses various foods, greetings, symbols and customs. Egg-speriment Aimed at children, this teaches many handicrafts using eggs and egg cartons. Masks, candles, decorations, puppets and bird and animai forms are just a few of the items included. Country Road Nurs ery Sehool The high point of this week, of course, was our Valentine's Party. The children did a very effective job of decorating the school with red and white hearts and Valentine collages. They made their own special Valentine table loth for the best part of the party-treat time!P We'd ail like to thank Betty Stonehouse, Christa Walker, Barb Drummond, Trudy Broome, Diane McDonald and Brian Buchan for supplying such scrumptious goodies! The Statesman ]photograph- er doesn't know what hie missed not accepting our invitation! Thanks also to Debbie Fowler for helping out! The youngsters were reminded to brush their teeth as soon as they got home. On Friday, Feb. l6th we had a special visitor - Pebbles the Pup, who belongs to Brian Buchan. She certainly made many new friends at Country Roads. The children have al become quite familiar with P.Îlan-s arre being made for a "Flea Market" 'on Sat. May 26 fromn 10-4 p.m. Refreshments wiIl be available. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a U.C.W. Life Membership pin to Mrs. Ruby Warburton. Congratulations. Gladys Short led in devotions. Foilowing devotions Members were assigned groups and each group planned two meetings for the coming year. . . MFG. 90t OFF LABEL, TOASTMASTER Home Style 16OZ.
