Section Two The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, March 21, 1979 7 Heart Fund Benefits from Weight Loss Marie Ludwick, Area Director of Weight Watchers in Southern Ontario presents a cheque for $8,137.12 to Mr. Ted Glista, Co-Chairman with Dr. Frank Lipson of the Business and Industrial Fund for the Ontario Heart Fund. 15,000 Weight Watchers members lost 81,371¼ 4pounds in February; one of them is ittie Adrienne Borys, age il who Iost 20 pounds. Members of the Weight Watchers classes in southern Ontario report the mysterious disappearance of 81,371/ pounds (40% tons) during Heart Month. Investigators are at a loss to determine where ail that fat is iding. Experts at Weight Watchers agree that it is gone for good. But because of tbe 28-day disappearing act performed by 15,000 Weight Watcbers members, the Ontario Heart Fund is $8,137.12 ahead, and so, therefore, are the health and well-being of anyone in the population affected by cardiovascular disease. On behaîf of the members in their southern Ontario classes, Walter and Marie Ludwick, Area Directors, have made good the losses by presenting ten cents for every one of February's lost pounds to Mr. Frank Lipson and Mr. Ted Glista, representing the Peel Chapter of the Heart Fund as Co-Chairman of the Business and Industrial Fund. Far from being sur- prised by now Mr. and Mrs. Ludwick can only conclude that the perpetrators (their Weight Watcbers members) are using an excellent program to ensure weight loss and to support cardio- vascular research. Amy and Julie Ann Sleep, in the Smth's Woods, are as excited as can be about the Friday birth of their baby brother. Blackstock Nursery School The Blackstock Nursery Sehool met in the Recreational Centre Meeting Room on Tuesday, March isth, at 8:00. Treasurer Joanne Lee read the financial statement which was accompanied with cost sheets for insurance. It was announced that children attending school on Thursday, April l9th, both morning and afternoon, will meet at the school at 9:30, where they will be transported by mini-bus to Mothers' Pizza for a tour, returning between 11: 15 - 11:30, after a pizza treat. Each cbild is required to take fifty cents for the cost of the bus. Brenda requested that children always be sent to school with snowpants so that they make full use of the playground, during the cool months. A letter was read from Betty Fudge concerning the rules about snow days, missed by students, Company Policy states that, "during bad weather cancellation of scbool, teachers will be paid, rent paid, no make-up day and no-reimbursement will be made to the parent." Class pictures were discussed at length and arrangemnents were made to approach Beth Schyrburt as to the cost of individual and class photos. A film has been obtained which is a follow-up to the first seminar, 'The Value of Play' it will be shown the second Tuesday in April, at 7:30, prior to the Nursery School monthly meeting. If there are any questions about this film, Judy Crawford should be contacted. Plans are underway for a "Craft Bazaar"', set for October l3th at the Recrea- tional Centre. Before the Bazaar, spring workshops are being arranged to aid the parents in the preparation of crafts. The Bazaar Committee asked for, and received, a sum of $100 for the materials and advertisement needed to boost the project. Paula Lishrnan will do a workshop sometime in May on leather and fur crafts. April 2ndKathy White will hold a workshop at her home on apple dolîs and clothes pin furniture. Chris, Cliff and JoAnne Russell have plans for a quilting workshop and many other exciting crafts are being planned. At the April meeting nominations will be made for 1979-80 officers to be voted on at the May meeting. Open House is scheduled for May lst. Student registration will follow on the 22nd of May with pre-registration available for present members. The health nurse is present- ly making examinations of the children, concerning hearing - vision. Several mothers have been inquiring about the Denver Test being held at the school. Alice Waldriff, Kathy White, and Brenda Bryant have been named for the Fair Committee to decide on the possibility of a float and the idea of special BLACKSTOCK NEWS Safe driving is a tamily affair. prizes and awards to be purchased by the school. The graduçtting four year olds will have a graduating party this year complete with diploma. Sharon Logan has offered her pooî for the party on June ist. The all-school picnic and trip is scheduled for, Saturday, June 2nd, ideas are needed at the April meeting.
