Bowmanville's King Garden Oldtimers team defeated the Oshawa This Weel<,icreaming Turkeys by a 7-4 victory at Bowmanville Arena last Thursday night. The quality of hockey the Oldtimers have been displaying ini their weekly free exhibition games has warranted a growýing number of fans. I I I ) I I again from Brown and Larry Simpson in the early going. With Hunt's out in front 2 - 1 Hooper's had to come back and play some good hockey and this they did. Both teams were tiring as the, arena was warm but manpower took its toil as Hunt's just didn't have the legs. Caruana evened the game at two with Hartwig and Dona- ghue assisting with iess than two minutes to go. Then, the final crunch came at 19:25 when Smart scored on a deflection to put Hooper's into the lead with Caruana assisting. This week shauld prove to be a thriller as 'both teams look strong in the series s0 far. PD&Rports Minor Atome In the openin gamet the Toros came uagainst their old rivais the Grimsby "Peach Kings". Both teamns are comparatively equal in strength and every time they have met a real battie emerges. The game ended ia 1 -1 tie and everyone waited in suspense for the announce- ment as to the winner as it was to be decided on shots on goal. The final taily was 12 to 10 for the Toros. Scoring for the Toros was Cory Sweet with David Fairey. and Glen Campbell gaining assists. The defence of Michael Houston, Shawn Rekker, Bobby McArthur and Barry Oliver played great for the Toros. This was a great personal win for the Toros but it proved in the long run to be mnore beneficiai for the Peach Kings as they emerged as the Consolation Champs with no trouble at ail and we were defeated in the next game. In the second game we camne up against the Brantford AAA and were defeated 6 -2. Really hustling for the Toros were Brian Noble, David Fairey and Gien Campbell. Scoring for the Toros were Chris Beck and Cory Sweet and getting assists were Kelly Armstrong, Cory Sweet, Chris Beck and Brian Noble. We may not have won the game but the parents and players had a fantastic time in the Peiee Motor Inn swimming, playing golf and drowning our sorrows. In fact I think by the look of most of us it'Il take a week to survive. On Sunday, March 4th, the D & R Toros travelled to Port Hope to play their Major Atom, team. The Toros 'Ia-d just finished a hard play off series with Bay Ridges and appeared tired but stili managed to Win 3 -2. Ini the iast write up in the paper a section was lef t out and we feel it should be mentioned so we wiil repeat it now. In the playoffs a special mention should go to David Smith, our goalie, who piayed ail five games and faced 98 shots on net, aliowing a total of only nine goals - keep up the good work David! In the Port Hope game the Toros jumped into a quick lead on a goal from Michael Houston with assists'to Kelly Armstrong and Cory Sweet. Early in the second period Port Hope scored to even it Up but the Toros quickiy netted another goal to put themn ahead, Scori.ng for the Torcs was Larry Perris with Barry Oliver gaining the assist. In the third period both teams scored to finish the game. Scoring the Toros' goal' was Barry Oliver with Chris Beck and Cory Sweet getting the assist. On Saturday, March 1Oth, the Toros played host to the Oshawa Black Hawks, being handed a 4 - 3 defeat. The Toros neyer were ini tis game from the' beginning being out-shot 18 - 9. Scoring for the Toros were Shawn Rekker (2), and Kelly Armstrong. Getting assists were Gien Campbell, Chris Beck and Cory Sweet. Scoring fôr Oshawa were Smith (2), Nilwey and Dow. Hoopor'sHU irst of ahl I wouid like to note that Hunt's won the opening game 4 - 3. Dale Copithorn picked up a hat trick and assisted on the other. The game was very fast as Hunt's rnroaedout to an
