Funeral services were at McDermott Panabaker, Port Perry on Monday, with the Reverend Victor Parsons officiating. Many floral tokens and donations to charity were received from his numerous friends and relatives in his memory. 'On the left is Claude Ives, a partner in the business with Fred Foley who is shown on the right hand side of the doorway. 0OBITUARY RAYVMOND ROSS ESSER Y As the resuit of a fire in Atlanta, Georgia, Raymond Ross Essery, died suddenly on Wednesday, March l4th, 1979. Bora December 24th, 1945 he was the son of Mrs. Edith Essery and the late Howard Essery of Oshawa. He was married to Sharon Larmer on October l6th, 1971. Ray had resided at Black- stock for the past 6 years, and was employed by Motor Car- riers Ltd., Oshawa, for 5½/ years. Previously he had worked for Overland Western Transport, Oshawa. Frank' Hilder has been ap pointed director of product- ion, general products. He succeeds Donald A. Masters, who bas become vice pres- ident of that division. Hilder, until now manager of the Collingwood, Ont. plant, joined Goodyear in 1974 as production manager in Col- lingwood after serving as plant manager for a furniture manufacturer. He is a mech- anical engineering graduate of North West Kent College of Technology in his native England. Prior to moving to Canada, be served as contract manager for a large British sbipbuilding and aircraft manufacturing firm, when he travelled mucb of the world negotiating shipbuilding coftr.cts. Joan iPoirier nas oeen appointed a Bell Canada commercial manager in Oshawa, succeeding Gail Browne who is now working in Toronto. Mrs. Poirier's responsibility includes subscribers in the, telephone exchanges in the Bowmanville, Port Hope, Cobourg, Newcastle and Coiborne area. She was born in, St. Boniface, Manitoba and after attending school in Toronto and Val D'Or, Quebec, she joined Bell Canada in Toronto as a service representative in 1968. Mrs. Poirier became an, assistant commercial manager in Toronto in 1973. She moved to Oshawa in the same capacity in 1978 and assumed her present position February 19, 1979. Mrs. Poirier is on the board of directors of the Oshawa Junior Achievement. Durham WI An executive meeting of the West Durham District Women's Institute was held at the home of the First Vice- President, Mrs. Fred Watson, on Tues., Mar. 2th. Our President,. Mrs. Verna Bryant, was unable to be present on account of illness. Each of the 8 branches were represented at the meeting. Mrs. Watson, called the meet- ing to order, and we repeated the Mary Stewart Collect. Mrs. Myrtle Bradley, our Secretary Treasurer, read the minutes of the last Executive Meeting, these were passed. The main purpose of this meeting was to plan the District Annual, which comes up on May 9th at Maple Grove. Mrs. Bradley passed around copies of the previous year's program so each one could follow along as the different items were discussed. Among the usual items, there will be cther numbers which will be entertaining and interestiîýg. Mrs. Schammerhorn of St. Paul's Church in Bowman- ville, will be the guest speaker- at the luncheon. The Maple- Grove school will entertain with their choir. Mrs. M. Adams, our Provincial Board Member, and Miss Linda Caldwell, our Home Econo- mist will bring us interesting and informative information about their work. We know Maple Grove ladies will make fine hostesses and also serve us a delightful lunch at the noon hour. Come out and enjoy this Special Day in our Institute Work. Af ter the District Annual was planned many items were discussed which we are to take back to our branches. If you want to be a good W. member, be sure to attend every meeting as well as the District Annual. Women's Institutes are much more Saturday's inclement weather did not stop these hardy Beavers from cleaning up debris in Bowman- ville's Memorial Park. The cleanup on Saturday morning yielded the large bags of trash shown in this photo. And after the work was finished, an outdoor cookout with bot dogs was held in the park. Shown in the photo are Bowmanville's Fourth "B" Beavers who took part in the outing. enjoyable and worthwhile if you keep informed about al that is going on - flot only in the branch. but the district, the area, the province and even beyond that. Don't forget we are World Wide. We plan to send our Presi- dent, Mrs. Bryant, to the F.W.I.C. -Convention in June. There may be others going as well. This only meets every 3 years.
