4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmz Pontypool Mr. and Mrs. Dean Fisk of Ottawa were weekend visitors with Jessie and Gerald Fîsk. The Sid Barrabalis of Orono were also recent visitors with the Fisks. Nine tables of euchre were' played on Friday night in Pontypool Community Centre. Winners were Ceeule Staples, Betty Brown, Ina Cain, Norman Brown, Wilfred Beggs, Murray Porter and Bob Brown.> Gordon Strong is a patient ini Civic Hospital,, Peterborough. He was admitted on Friday. We send Gordon speedy get- well wishes. Also hope for better health is sent to Leslie Fairhurst who has been in Civic Hospital for several weeks. Roy Cochrane suffered a stroke last Tuesday mornlng and' is in Bowmanville Memorial Hospital. He is in good spirits and hopes to be able to soon corne home. The Pontypool Community Centre was filled to capacity on Saturday nigbt for a Benefit for Murray Porter. A godszd cheque was preene to Murray. Murray returns to hospital in Toronto this Wednesday for a check- up. We trust that ail will be well. Congratulations to The Pontypool Mad Dogs, our local men's hockey team. The team participated in the 1979 Labatt's Tournament beld in the, Warsaw, Havelock and Peterborough Kinsmen Arenas on the weekend. On Sunday the team defeated Ennismore 6 - 1 to bring home the Consolation Championship in their division. Members of the team are: Darrell Hunt, Geroge Van Dam, Wayne Hunt, Gary Akey, Pat Brown, Dean Joncas, Kelly Neals, Gary VanDam, Wayne Pierce, Dave Rafuse, Martin Joncas, Gerry Fallis, Laverne Brown, Denis Hartwig, Chris Walton, Randy Baker, John (Buck) Hughes, Keith Ibbitson - Coacb Steve Dixon. This same team defeated Yelverton 3 - 2 in overtime on Friday night in Manvers Mrena. The series stands at one game each with the final game to be played this Friday at 8:00 p.m. Several friends called at the Harry Van Wieringens' on Sunday to help Frances cele- brate lier birthday. Among the cards received was one from Mrs. Charlie Fee who, with daughter Patti, holidayed with relatives in Alaska. Thanks to Diane Noden for passing on the following information re Manvers Atoms. In Ennismore last Monday Manvers won 2 - 0 witb goals scored by Wayne Prouse and Brett Garland. The team is. now in the Championsbip round with, Beaverton. In the first game on Sunday Beaverton was leading the Manvers boys by 4 - 0. At 3:ý15 in tbe 3rd period Manvers came back and tied the score. In sudden deatb overtîme Manvers scored to win the game 5 - 4. Goal scorers were Joey Rose witb 4 and Danny Bazinet 1.
