FIGURE SKATING - Carnivals are coming up and. the dates to mark down are Newcastle Figure Skating Carnival March 31st-April lst. Orono's Carnival is on April 7th and 8th, and Bowmanville's Carnival is April 28th and 29th. VAN DYK'S - Mînor Micigets have been in a rugged, bone-crushing series against Midland, and went into the fifth and deciding game Monday night at Darlington Arena. The game went to Midland with a 3-0 score, and,-the serles 3 games to 2. The Midland goalie was hot and made the frustrating difference between the two teams. Van Dyk's gave it a- great try but just couldn't get on the scoreboard. So it's over for them for the season, but we'll be hearing more from this fine team next season. The fallowing night they returned ta Bowmanville to beat the strong Markhamf team 2 - 0. This was Bowman- ville's first ever win over Markham and . everyone deserves credit for the fine effort. The game turned out ta, be, Mike Gallant's night as he scored twa goals ta win the game for the Taras. Gaining assists were Larry Perris and Bobby McArthur. The line of ,Mike Gallant, Paul Stainton and Larry Perris played a great game for the Taras. David Smith deserved the shut out in goal making many excellent saves stapping 27 shots. In the third game the Taras were tired as this was their third night tÔ play and travel as we went ta Whitby. We were defeated 5' - 2 but the Taras neyer showed they could play hockey in the game.
