Since her return from Oshawa General Hospital, Mrs. Lena Garrod is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Garrod, Jr. In Memorial Hospital, Bow- manville are Mrs. Rena Megit, Mrs. Hazel Malley, Mr. Karl Weyrich and Mr. Sam Powell. Mr. Ross Embley is still a patient in Kingston General Hospital but is allowed home in Trenton on weekends. Mr. Charles Brereton of Port Hope who is a patient in Peterborough Hospital was visited last week by Newcastle members of his family. Sorry to report that Miss Candy Storks is a patient in Blind River Hospital. Anglican Church News On Sunday afternoon, St. George's Young People met at the home of Joy Ygtes and enjoyed a barbecue supper with a bonfire on the beach in the evening. St. John the Baptist was the theme of the service at the 11';15 service at St. George's. The sermon emphasized the Providence of God as exemplified in John's life. On Saturday Rev. and Mrs. Haldenby attended the 50th anniversary celebration of the marriage and ordination of the Rt. Rev. and Mrs. H.R. Hunt at the Diocese Centre in Toronto. Bishop Hunt was Suffragan Bishop of Toronto for many years. It was announced that in July and August the services at St. George's will be combined in one service at 9 a.m. each Sunday. A farewell party was held by the choir of St. George's for Mrs. Joan Cashin, organist at St. George's and St. Saviour's. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Yates hosted this party on Friday evening. On Sunday afternoon at two o'clock a Memorial Service was held at St. George's Cemetery. Local residents and visitors attended. Much credit was given to Mr. Ron Locke on the fine appearance of the cemetery. United Church News On Saturday members of the United Church Women sold food at the auction sale of Pat and Michael Macdonnell. On Sunday, June 24 an outdoors Worship Service was planned but due to the cool weather, it was held inside. Mr. Steven Allin presided at the organ. Rev. David Spivey spoke to the children about the two fish and the five barley loaves. Communion Service was celebrated. The Prayer to be used each week during our break is: Hold me safe in your blessed keeping this day, O my Lord and Saviour. On Sunday, July 1, members of Newcastle congregation worship with the members of Orono Pastoral Charge at Kirby Centennial School at 10 o'clock in the morning. President Jack Crago conducted a short business period when it was decided that the 1980 Reunion would be held on June 22nd, the fourth Sunday. Dinner at two o'clock was favored by most. Mrs. Inez Boughen attended the Rebekah Assembly, held at the Royal York Hotel, Toronto, last week, Monday through Wednesday. About 700 were in attendance, with over 100 lodges represented, the largest assembly ever held, so far. About 1500 were at the banquet on Wednesday even- race was won by David Rudge and Harley Sherman. Father and daughter Harley and Lisa Sherman won the three-legged race. The June meeting of Newtonville U.C.W. began with a pot-luck supper, at 6:30 p.m. last Wednesday evening, in the Sunday School Hall, where there was an attendance of 14 (including two gentlemen.) After the enjoyable meal, President Carole Gardner' called the meeting to order, and the members stood up, and repeated the "U.C.W. Purpose". Minutes of last meeting were read by the Secretary, Jean Kimball, and approved.
