They played Kingsway from Toronto in the first game and lost 14-4. Bowmanville sent 3' pitchers to the mound, starting with Chris Michelson who was relieved late in the game by Brad Bamsey and Scott Heard. None of them could control the hard-hitting Kingsway team. In the second game, Bow- manvilie came up against a team from Brampton, Chuck Nash started for the home team but he had difficulty finding the strike zone so was relieved hy Chris Michelson. Heard took over from Michelson and pitched well but bad fielding errors at the beginning of the game enabled Brampton to build up a sizeable lead. However, the local team neyer gave up and came back to score several runs in the last innings with the final tally being 12-7 for Brampton. Next home game is Thurs- day, June 28 when Whithy play the Pee Wees at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Park. Pitcher Doug Crough pounded a homer and had four RBIs, but it wasn't enough. The Newcastle Lakers' basehaîl team came to town on Sunday ready to play hall. And that's exactly what they did in defeating the Bowman- ville Merchants 7-5. The game went 10 innings and Gary Cox pitched very well from start to finish for the Lakers. The Lakers also played excellent defensive hall. .The loss evened Bowman- ville's record at 5-5. This was Chuck's first attempt at pitcbing this season. Wayne Mutton led the Bow- manville attack with a home run, a triple and a single. Scott Heard also hit a bomer. On Saturday, June 23, the Legion Pee Wees travelled to Cobourg to paiËticipate in the Atomrs 'Wl.in First Game in Ont Cup Bowmanville United Major Atoms, sponsored by Cbeckers Variety, hosted a team from MiIton in the first round of the Ontario Cup and beat tbem by a convincing score of four goals to one. The game was played Saturday, June 23. Bowmanville pressed the Milton team rigbt from the start and were unlucky not to score in the first two minutes. A good cross from the lef t wing went to Tony Meredith whose shot hit the post and was cleared by the Milton defense. Ten minutes later, Larry Perris scored Bow- manville's first goal with a shot from 20 yards out. Before the haif was over, Gareth Stone (who had a fine game) made it 2 - O for Bowmanville after some good work by Mark Smith and Jeff Laird. In the second haîf, Junior Pithie made it 3 - O after a nice passing play witb Jeff Laird. Milton made it 3 - 1 five minutes later and nabbed Ted Groves of a shut-out. With less than two minutes 'to go, Gareth Stone scored bis second goal of the game after a fine pass from Junior Pithie. This was a great team effort with every boy on the team piaying a terrific game. Congratulations, boys, on your first ever Ontario Cup game.
