Lek-"tte ,r to thie Edietor Dear Mý1r. James Wble Mr. Sinclair Stevens and Mr. Crosifie are doing their best to make certain that we understand the govern- mient's cupboards are bare, actions of the government do not support their arguments. Why is the Federal Govern- ment spending $100,000,000.00 on a Crown Corporation plant that they are going to seil. The government is going to sell the Eldorado Nuclear Industry to the private sector, yet they are in the process of spending a huge amount of money on tbis industry. This makes no sense when they are trying to curtail spending. Perhaps Mr. Lawrence could answer this question. I can't help but think its location is the answer. This would mean that the Govern- ment of.Canada is willing to spend $100,00o,000 to ensure one election promise in one riding. It does not make Mr. Stevens' 'stgtements sound very creditable. Not only is the selling of a Nuclear Industry to the private sector a dangerous precedent. Which has been proven close to home in the United States - stories of missing uranium, contamina- tion, and murder, etc. It must not be allowed! While Port Hope may be pleased to bave secured yet another Nuclear industry, they may anticipate an economical uplift, but in return they cannot continue to expect the same quality of life. Time will proverme right. Sincerely, Carol Berney.
