4 The Canadian Statesman,1 KENDAL Kendal Women's Institute met at the home of Miss Catherine Stewart last Wed- nesday evening with fine members present. The president, Mrs. Helen Hender- son opened the meeting with the Institute Ode followed by the Mary Stewart Colleet. Mrs.Janet Dykeman read the minutes and Mrs. D. Gosson gave the financial report. The Agriculture and Canadian Industries convenors were in charge of the program. Mrs. Leonore Stapleton spoke on Safety in the Home, telling of many things to be careful about in the home, on the farm and on the roads. The roll cal was Hazards in the work places. A letter was read from the foster child in Haiti also a letter of appreciation from the pupils in Mrs. Adam's class in Kirby. Mrs. Dorothy Turansky and Mrs. Janet Dykeman are the leaders who will be taking the course on indoor gardening at Maple Grove. Mrs. Del Gosson was appointed the delegate to the area convention in Toronto. Mrs. Barbara Holland is making the gift to be sold at the area convention and also for the draw at the Fun Fair. Further plans were made, for the branches' donations to the Fun Fair. The October meeting will be held one week later on Oct. 24th at the home of Mrs. J. Stapleton. A social haîf hour was enjoyed over lunch provided by Mrs. Stevens and Miss Stewart. Congratulations are extend- ed to two young people from Kendal who were married overthe weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Roy MacDonald, nee Helen flajoric of Oshawa were married in the Parkwood Gardens, Oshawa, on Friday evening. The young couple will be living in Orono. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gimblett, nee Susan Thompson of Kendal were married in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Bowmanville on Saturday. They will be living in Oshawa. Over a hundred guests met at the village of Newcastle town hall on Saturday evening to celebrate the 5th Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Low of Orono, former- ly of Kendal. The evening was spent in dancing and renewing old acquaintances. A humorous skit was enacted out depicting many of the high lîghts of their past fifty years. A delicious buffet supper was served just before midnight. An enjoyable evening for all who were present. Congratulations to Mrs. I. Marlatt, Mrs. A. Foster's mnother who celebrated her 93rM birthday last Saturday. Sympathy is extended to the Hoy families of this area in the death of Mrs. Tattersaîl of Oshawa. She is a sister of Mr. James Hoy and Mr. Burns Hoy both living in Kendal. Funeral services were held on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Falls attended Baptismal service of their grandson, Lorne Robert Falls infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Falls of Peter- borough last Sunday morning. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Harland Elliott on the week- end were Mrs. Elliott's sister Mrs. Mary King and her friend of North Bay and on Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Fred Neville and infant daughter Jailene of Port Hope. There was a good attendance at church Sunday morning. Rev. A. Tizzard entitled his sermon - This Little Light of Mine" taken from Phillippians 2: 1-18. The special music was a duet, sung by Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Lowery from Scarborough,, Have Thine Own Way Lord, Staplton aia toe pn o p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Harland Seens of Bailieboro visited Mr. and Mrs. R. Elliott on Sunday afternoon.
