The juvenile charged in the July 2 murder of Kathleen Wels will be tried in adult court, Judge Richard Donald ruled Thursday. The 15-year-old juvenile has been officially charged by Durham Regional Police with first-degree murder. Miss Wels' batt2:red body was found by bier father Carl Wels ini a secluded area of Whitby when she failed to return home from jogging. The identity of the accused cannot' be released to tbe public because hie is a juvenile. His identity and the facts surrounding the case will continue to be kept secret even though hie will be tried in adult court. Defending the accused will be noted Osbawa lawyer, Terry Kelly. There were four area winners in the Ontario Safety League contests held earlier tbis year, and advertised in The Canadian Statesman and Newcastle Independent. Paul Watson, won second prize in Çontest 1 for 6-7 year old, Mike Colwell won second in Contest 4 for 8-9 year olds. Dwayne Brown won second in contest 4 for 10-11 year olds and Tommy West won second for 12-14 year olds. A new publication entitled "From Pitb to Playgrounds" is now available at the Lindsay District Office of the Ministry of Natural Resources at a cost of $2.00. The 50-page booklet gives -an historical. view of aggregate extraction and pit re habilita- tion in the City of Toronto and includes numerous black and white photographs a ndseven maps detailing rehabilitated pit tours. The publication also contains a coloured map showing geological deposits of Metro Toronto that have been and are being mined at present. Congratulations to Jackie Canfield of Bowmanville who was first runner-up in the Miss Oshawa 1980 contest. The title was won by Juanita Kranitzki. Dave Devaîl of C.F.T.O. was bost for the event. The 95-member Oshawa chapter of Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship will get the inside story about the mass suicide at Jones- town, Guyana. Tbe meeting starts at 7 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. The Ontario Science Cenlre's Science Circus is comning home for tbe wcekend! Since last June, the Circus bas been touring Canada and bas visited cities from Vancouver to St. John's. On Saturday and Sunday, Sepember 29 and 30, frorn 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and for the fîrst time ever, it can be seen in Toronto, at the Science Centre, under the yellow and white circus tent. Spotlight Theatre Company, formerly of Bowmanville is presenting the smash bit Boeing Boeing at the Arts Resource Centre in Oshawa behind City Hall at Queen and Centre Streets) There is ample parking and the show is on September 27th, 28tb and 29th at 8:30 p.m. Former local patrons will recail that Spotlight Theatre began it's life in the littie converted Baptist Church in Bowmanville - but the building was sold and the Company bad to move to Oshawa. However, the Company bas a soft spot for its former Bowmanville and Newcastle patrons and it hopes tbey will continue to support them now as they did in sucb plays as 'Dangerous Corner', 'The Two of Us', and 'Six Rms.
