Mr. and Mrs. George Buck- ley returned last week from a three-week vacation in Banff where they visited their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Buckley. The Senior Citizens were entertained last Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cryderman, Bowmanville. Over thirty per- sons enjoyed the corn roast and lunch. Newcastle members of the Newtonville Women's Institute enjoyed the meeting last Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Mary Jones, Newton- ville. Those attending were Elizabeth Skelding, Bessie Dean, Kay Kimball, May Burley, Louise Jose, Bessie Stephenson, Gladys Wood and Ellen Duxbury. Several Newcastle friends attended the birthday party reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Todd, Starkville in honor of her father, Mr. Stanley Bowen. Among those enjoying this celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Pearce, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Murphy, Mrs. Kathleen Kimball, Mrs. Raye Friedlander and Mrs. Pauline Storks. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Buttery, Bowmanville were Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sid Lancaster and all enjoyed the 96th birthday celebration of Mr. Bowen's. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Brereton, Irene and her girl friend, Bev Peake, of Kendal spent last weekend in Toronto taking in and thoroughly enjoying (even though Toronto lost) the Yankee-Blue Jay Baseball Games on Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Dean Friedlander, Kitchener and Mrs. Jill Christie, Toronto spent the weekend with their mother, Mrs. Raye Friedlander. Mrs. Glenda Rumbles and Krista, Norwood were Friday and Saturday visitors with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Powell visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Markle, Alyssa and Andrew, helping to celebrate Master Andrew's seventh birthday. Allan was promoted to Corporal and is now on an 8-month's chef's course at Petawawa. Congratulations, Allan! Anglican Church News St. George's Anglican Church Women met in the Parish Hall on Wednesday evening for their first meeting of the fall season. Their programme which was drawn up, looks like a very busy season for this very active group of people. Rev. Allan Haldenby and Mrs. Dennis Schmiegelow attended the annual meeting on Friday and Saturday. This Bishop of the Diocese was recently appointed Arch- bishop of the Province, at meetings in Sudbury. All congregations will be involved in projects to make the outreach of the Church more effective. At the Sunday Service, the Rector gave a report on the Synod which will be supple- mented by a written report by Mrs. Schmiegelow. St. George's Youth Group met in the Parish Hall, Sunday evening to plan their year's activities. They will be assist- ing in the service next Sunday. Sunday evening the Fellow- ship Club met for a Corn Roast on the beach at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Yates. Singing led by impromptu leaders made it an enjoyable evening. United Church News The U.C.W. Executive meeting was held last Wednes- day evening at the home of Mrs. Jean Holmes. Plans were discussed for upcoming cater- ing and for the Nov. 10. Turkey Supper. Some members are moving away and regrets were expressed by President Kay Powell to Rec. Secty Lesle Campbell who is moving to Elizabethville area.
