Here, MPP Hon. Allan Lawrence, Solicitor General and Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, gets a hit. Mr. Lawrence was pitcher for the celebrity team. Other members of the team included MPP Russell Rowe; Hon. Frank Drea, MPP John Turner; Mayor Bill Wyatt, of Port Hope; MPP Sam Cureatz; Lloyd Williams, Reeve of Hamilton Township; Bob Wilson, deputy reeve of Cobourg; and Garnet Rickard, Mayor of Newcastle. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Spencer accompanied their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Rowland Spencer, Bowman- ville, to Toronto on Saturday where they all attended the graduation exercises at University of Toronto when granddaughter Cathy graduated as Medical Laboratory Assistant. They enjoyed refreshments at Hart House and in the evening the celebration continued at a dinner and dance at Simpson's Tower Arcadian Court. Sympathy is extended to relatives and friends of Lena Garrod who passed away last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. John Scott attended York University graduation on Saturday, September 29, when daughter Cathy received her Bachelor of Arts. Mrs. Madeleine Buckley and Mrs. Bea Jones attended the Superannuated Teachers' Luncheon at Kingsview Church, Oshawa last Wednes- day. The guest speaker told of an African visit. Mrs. Joan Skelding, Niagara Falls, and Mrs. Linda Vacius, St. Catharines, were overnight guests of the Ronald Hope's last week. On Satur- day, Joan, Linda and George Skelding Jr. who had been visiting his uncle Bill and Aunt Mary, Newtonville were callers at Mrs. Elizabeth Skelding's. Miss Candy Storks, Blind River, spent the weekend at home. Miss Linda Williams, Toronto, was a Thursday night guest of the Storks. On Sunday even- ing at the home of Diana and Verne Rowe, a family dinner was enjoyed when all the family and visitors celebrated Mr. and Mrs. Allin Rowe's 38th wedding anniversary and the birthdays of Diana and Brenda, wife of Mr. Glenn Rowe, who both came from Fenelon Falls for the party. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Rowe and Darryll also attended the celebralions. Mr. and Mrs. Robin Alldred àttended the Baptismal Service at Kendal United Church on Sunday, September 30th, when their grand- daughter, Robyn Lee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Alldred, was baptized. Anglican Church News St. George's Young People conducted the 11:15 a.m. service on Sunday. The church selv l pupils and teachers attended. Lessons were read by Mike Locke, Nicki Schmiegelow and Jeffrey Lake. The church school measured the size of the church to illustrate the text from Ephesians 3:18, which spoke of the breadth, length, depth and height of God's Love. The flowers on the altar were placed there by Mr. Reginald Le Gresley in memory of his mother, Mabel LeGresley. The Youth Group had a coffee hour after the service on Sunday. The Bible Study is starting for the fall term on Monday, Oct. 2nal at 2:30 u.m. It, is to be held alternating afternoons and evenings, Oct. 6th will be at 7:30 p.m. The Durham County Loyal Orange Lodge held a service Sunday afternoon in Newtonville Church. Several from Kendal attended. County Master Wayne Lowery and Bill Clark assisted in the service. Sympathy is extended to Mr. John Lowery and family in the death of Mrs. Lowery. Bowmanville Cubs Hold Successful Bottle Drive on Weekend Bowmanville's Cub packs were out in force on Saturday during the Cubs' bottle drive. Shown here are some of them from the Third Bowmanville Pack who were taking a break at their depot on Scugog St. Figure Skating Club Hosts Skate Exchange at Arena The Bowmanville Memorial Arena was the scene of a busy skate exchange on Saturday morning and afternoon. The exchange was sponsored by the Bowmanville Figure Skating Club and a large assortment of skates were available at reasonable prices. Here, some of the young shoppers inspect the merchandise. Proceeds from the skate exchange go towards the support of the figure skating club. NESTLETON- CAESAREA Social News Mr. and Mrs. Grant Thompson, Nestleton, visited with Grant's sister Mrs. Russel Francis in Orillia Hospital and stayed overnight with Mrs. Norman Warmington in Beaverton. Mrs. Jessie Slemon and Mrs. Helen Millson of Bow- manville were Sunday callers of the Thompsons. Mr. and Mrs. George Bowers and son Jerry visited Mrs. Dorothy Chapman and Lisa at New Liskeard from Friday to Monday. They visited on Sunday with the Stewart Dorrell family at Charleton - and dined at Breault's restaurant in New Liskeard - nine folk in all. This a few days visit. Mr. R. Elliott spent the weekend in the Nipissing area visiting friends. Miss Catherine Stewart, Mrs. Eleanor Foster and Mrs. Pearl Clark had lunch on Sunday with Mrs. R. Elliott. Mr. Allan Downes and son Barry visited the Mennonite Country at Apple Creek, Ohio for several days last week. They were guests of Joe and Donna Colbentz who really showed them around. A big saw mill and their way of farming, also horse races. Mr. Downes had previously sold machinery to these people this year. was a wedding anniversary celebration for George and Ella Bowers. "Very Best Wishes" to the Bowers for many more anniversaries. It is wonderful to see them well enough to travel once again. Keep up the good work! Last Sunday Mrs. Bruce Heaslip's niece and husband Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Robinson took Bruce and Olive to visit her nephew Mr. and Mrs. Allan Irvine at R.R. Bowman- ville. This past week Mr. and Mrs. Percy McMahon, Scar- borough, called on Olive on their way to the cottage at Minden. Pleased to report Bruce is improving and is home for supper quite fre- quently - Saturday evening his roommate Mr. Bigelow was a supper guest with Bruce and Olive in Nestleton. An Exciting Dining Experience Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nicholls and Tom of Caesarea, and five couples went to the Crock and Block in Oshawa, for dinner Thursday evening. The Crock and Block is a delightful place to dine - a nostalgic restaurant dedicated to the highest standards re - food quality, and service excellent, with plenty of atmosphere. Bill and Shirley and friends were later entertained at Bill and Mary Nicholls (Junior) home on Chadburn Street. Plowing Match Mr. and Mrs. Roy Notting- ham of Caesarea, had a very enjoyable day on Wednesday when they attended the Plow- ing Match, held in Chatham, and were able to contact friends they had made in Florida while there. The Plowing Match was a tremendous success. North NeÉtIeton Church On Sunday, Sept. 30th at 11:15 a.m. on a beautiful, colorful day the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper was observ- ed. Rev. Victor Parsons delivered a most appropriate sermon taking as his topie "This Cup". Holy Scriptures: Luke 22: verses 14-23. Mr. Herb Vine accompanied by Mrs. L. Malcolm, sang the beautiful old Hymn "Just As I Am" which aded much.to the service. Members trust Herb will be back soon again. Two beautiful arrangements of Chrysanthemums graced the front of the church - a white cross in the centre with deep maroon flowers arranged about in an interesting fashion. Mrs. Jean Williams was responsible for these lovely vases of mums. A very good attendance at the service. Opening Shoot Three brave Cawker duck hunters arose in the wee small hours and sallied forth on opening day, September 29th, but those wary ducks eluded them - no ducks!!!
