Present were recreation director AI Vai, chairman Ralph Mclntyre, treasurer Fred Cole, secretary Dora Purdon, Claude Kilmer, Tom Rehder, Lionel Parker and Andy Thompson. Treasurer Cole reported summer expenses of the department at $134.98 leaving a bank balance of $313. FLASHBACK - 10 YEARS AGO - Walter Frank Real Estate defeated Kramp Furniture 3-0 in the Men's Town League Softball finals to win the league titie. Ron Smith, twirled a one-hitter, in his only, pitching appearance of the play-offs. Vern Grubin drove in two runs, AI Guernsey and John Kilpatrick collected double hits, while singles went to Tom Pearson, Smith and Ted Sal- lows had singles. LOSSA - Lake Ontario Secondary Sehools Association, held a Cross Country meet at Camp Samac last Thursday. in the junior boy's 5,000 m, Mike Gallagher of Courtice High Sehool piaced third. Jackie Vanderluit, aiso of Courtice, piaced first in the junior girls 3,000 m, with Mitzi Burgess of Bowmanviiie High, Sehool, second. ,Silvia Ruegger of Clarke High Schooi won the senior girls 3,000 m. Next LOSSA cross country is Thursday, October 4th in Uxbridge. FRANK'S VARIETY - defeated Kramp Furni- ture in the seventh game of the Men's Town League Softball League championship. Kramp's appeared to be on the way to a victory this year after coming from behind to tie up the series at three gantes each. But on Thursday, Frank's came through to win the titie. Congratulations to the winners and to the runners-up. It was a great series. JR C - hockey began the season, last' Sunday evening with the Cowan Pontiac Ltd., Jr C Red Eagles meeting Uxbridge. A chippy, fighting game both teams piayed as if the game wouid decide the championship. The club hosts a Sunday evening game nearly every week, so why not make it a habit to watch the team progress each week. Pat Forsey is now at the ticket booth, repiacing Jean Devitt, who last Friday moved to Niagara Falls, where shie and her husband have purchased a variety'and gift store. AVIATION DAY - Displays of both new and old aircraft will be among the many activities during Aviation Days at Oshawa Airport next month. The public is invited to tour the airport free of charge, on Saturday, October 13th, and l4th and examine the displays and see several exhibitions of flying skill. Among the highlights of the week- end is a "paradrop" of 40 paratroopers from a Canadian Armned Forces Hercules. There wilI also be aerobatics, helicopter rides and plane rides. Airport manager Larry McLean said about 6,000 people attended last year's Aviation Days and organizers expect at least that many this year. The event is organized by a committee made up of the varlous flying groups operating out of the airport. Vintage aircraft will bc on dis- play as well as the latest models from the leading manufacturers. There will also be a number of draws for valuable prizes. Among the prizes are a trip for two to the Caribbean, a Honda trail, bike and several hours of flying instruction. Sat- urday's activities begin at 10 am., Sunday's pro- gram gelts under way at noon. On Saturday evening they met Ajax in a fast moving game which ended in a Toros' victory. They scored twice in the second period on goals by Doug Brown, assisted by Robert Geidlinger and Chuck Nash, and Darcy Huber who skated through the Ajax team and scored unassisted on a power play. Ajax's only goal was put past goaltender Donnie Hayes by Dave Parker haif way through the last period. Eric Peebles played in net for the first haîf of the game. The local team took 10 penalties compared to the 6 assessed to Ajax. Uxbridge hosted the Toros on Sunday afternoon and defeated them 6-5. They popped two quick goals in the net at the beginning of the first period and ar.other early in the second before Bowmanville hit the scoreboard. Deryk Clark scored the Toros' first of the game and Darcy Huber assisted by Chris Michelson made the tally 3-2.. In the final period, Bowmanville took advantage of power play opportunities to close the gap. Doug Brown and Jay Sweet each scored unassisted goals and Daany Weir was assisted ýIby Raymond Cummings on his goal. In the final few minutes of the game the Toros tried desperately to tie the game but were unable to do more than hit the goal post which they did five times.
