4 The Canadian Statesman, BoWmanville, October 10, 1979 Thnat 's a Lot of Litter The Outreach Group at the St. John's Anglican Church in Bowmanville tackled a very unique projeet Saturday, September 29 when they held a litter chase. The event resulted in over 100 bags of garbage and many boxes of btties being collected from local streets ditches and other property in the town. The trash was taken to the Newcastle En- vironment Watchers' recycling depot in the Good- year parking lot. Organizers of the little chase estimate that between 25 and 30 persons took part in the event. Here some of the participants look over the litter that was accumulated. OBITU. Calgary, Aberta, who died la Calgary General Hospital, Monday, September 24, 1979. He had been iii for the past few months. - Born October 6, 1929 in East Whitby Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Butt and had been a resident of Calgary for the past 10 years, prevîously living in Oshawa. He was a heavy machine operator in Calgary He is survived by bis wife, the former Loretta Lloyd; three sons, Daniel, David and Donald at home; two daughters, Audra and Laura Leigh, botb at home; a brother, Harry Butt of Raglan and three sisters, Mrs. David Reynolds (Helen) of Bowman- ville, Mrs. Bruce Vaillancourt (Olive) and Mrs. Edward Wilson (Betha), both of Oshawa. PERCY JAMES DALBY A former employee at General Motors in the maintenance department who retired in 1974, Percy James Dalby, of R.R. 3 Bowmanville, died at Oshawa General Hospital, on Saturday, September 29, 1979. Born October 31, 1918, in Audley, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Dalby and was married September Section Two 26, 1942, in Ebenezer United Church. A resident of Courtice for 37 years, he was a member of Courtice United Church, and of UAW Local 222. He is survivied by bis wif e, the former Lorraine- Antil; two daughters, Mrs., Ron Jeffery (Joan), of Pontypool and Mrs. Sidney Reyenga (Sandra) of Oshawa; a son, Gary, ofOshawa; five sisters, Mrs. Val Beamish (Hilda), Mrs. Paul Mosienko (Helen), Mrs. Russ Pleau (Margaret), Mrs. Walter Mitchell (Reta) and Mrs. Verdun Rolson (Dorothy), ail of Oshawa; a brother, Lloyd Dalby, of Columbus; and six grand- children. FRANK HODGE Self -employed as a decorat- or who retired in 1970, Frank Hodge of 375 Elgin Street E, Oshawa, died at Osbawa General Hospital, Sunday, September 30, 1979. Rorn September 23, 1904 in Trenton, he was a son of the Mr. and Mrs. William Hodge and had lived in Oshawa for the past 35 years. ELSIE REID A former employee at Oshawa General Hospital as an RNA who retired a month ago with 18 years service, Mrs. Elsie Reid, of 1545 Evangeline Drive, Oshawa, died Friday, September 28, 1979, following a short illness. The former Elsie Eldridge was born July 23, 1914 in New Brunswick, a daugbter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge and had been a resident of Oshawa for 30 years. Her husband, Edward Reid, died in February, 1971. She is survived by tbree sons, Daniel and John, both in Toronto and Gerald of Oshawa; two daughters, Mrs. Normne Jarvis of Oshawa and Mrs. David Barrabal (Margaret) of Bowmanville and three grandchildren. Hall Seventy five members of the Peterborough Presbyterial Women's Missionary Society (W.D.) gathered at St. Andrew's Preshyterian Church, Norwood, Wed., evening, Sept. 26, 1979. By "successfully completed" I mean all our students are comfortable leaving their parents now, and have made new friends, and are busy having fun. Miss Jili Baron, from Durham Health Unit ln Bowmanville. On September l9th we celebrated Adam Kennedy's third birthday. His mom, Karen baked a great chocolate cake whicb we ail enjoyed. On Tuesday, Mrs. Alice Irwin, from Orono, and a former teacher at Country Roads, brought "Freckles", ber six week old Dalmation, to visit us. We discussed what "Freckles" eats and why, compared to what we eat, and why. The children were very interested in Freckles and he was just as interested in them! On Friday, Jane Marie Ellenington brought ber pet rabbit, "Fluff'~ to visit. He also made a big impression on the cbildren.
