Get into the Act at Maple Grove Turkey Supper W"fill Present Case to Regional Committee Sehool Board Oppwoses, Any Boundary Changes By Peter Parrott The majority of trustees serving on the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education are opposed to changes in the school system's western boundaries. At a meeting of the Board in Cobourg Thursday, September 27, the Board was invited to make comments at a special meeting called by the Durham Region in order to review and discuss the regional government system. The issue of whether or not the western territory - of the Northumberland Newcastle Board should be in the Durham Region Board of Education surf aced briefly as a result of this invitation. However, the majority of trustees indicated that they were happy with the boundaries just the way they are. Acting on a resolution from trustee Bill Carman, the Northumberland and Newcastle Board agreed to make a presentation at the meeting on regional government. The board's position at that meeting will be that the school system is a viable unit and that the Town of Newcastle should remain attached to the board for'educational purposes. Mr. Carman noted that there are some Town of Newcastle councillors and some trustees who feel Newcastle should be detached from the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of education. He said he is not oneWo this group. Trustee George Cameron recalled that this issue was discussed in the spring. He suggested that the matter be delayed until a report on the pros and cons of Newcastle remaining with the Northumberland Board is presented. However, this requestfor a delay was voted down by most of the trustees present. The Northumberland and Newcastle Board will make its presentation at a meeting to be held October 25 in Bowmanville or at a later meeting to be held December 5. The committee investigating regional government is holding meetings in local municipalities in order to give the public a chance to have input to the study. Other groups including conservation authorities, utilities and police commissions have been asked to make presentations. McGibbon, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will provide us with an opportunity to thank you and ail the other people and organizations who have supporteo1 us in many ways over the past five decades. Howarth President 17 Quebec St., 17 Oshawa L1H 2K3 Sept. 21, 1979 Dear Editor: Much mention has been made re the use and nonuse in schools of what is known as the Lord's Prayer, which was a model prayer for the disciples, but at the same time Sto the Editor indicating that God is the Father only of those who truly believe in His Son. Ail others can therefore not dlaim to be children of God. The Lord's own and grea test prayer, called the High Priest- ly Prayer, is obviously in Jn. 17:1-26, where Jesus prays for Himself, His disciples, and the unîversal. church. Not only does Scripture refer to the priesthood of Christ, but also applies it to ahl Christians! (1 Pet. 2:5,9). As for a substitute for the Lord's Prayer, the more doctrinal Apostles' Creed,~ hardly pala table to a number' of people, might be a welcome change and worth learning by believers, it can be recîted in, one minute. At present 1 can't' think of any other suitable replacement. Re the idea of a minute's sulent meditation, one could-, easily waste the time by thinking for a second or more on a host of different things or just keeping the mind blank as in Transcendental Meditation. Sgt., Herb Elson of the Newcastle OPP said that prohibited parking signs have already been placed where the creek meets Highway 2 and that these signs will soon be placed near \vhere the creek intersects Highway 401. Small his at both sides of the Cobbledick Road and Mili Street boundaries create hazardous conditions as the his prevent drivers from viewing far enough ahead to the creek area. Elson describes the area as "sort of a blind spot." Parking will stili be per- mitted on the shoulder of the, highway beyond the restricted area and a parking lot is planned for an area just off. Cobbledick Road in October. On Highway 2, the shoulder, of the road is not wide enough to allow drivers to pull their cars completely off the road.,ý To accommodate these fisher- ment, the prohihited area will stretch 30 metres on either ' side of the creek.
