Henry Buildall Offers Course In Rec Rooms Panelling is one of the basics in recreation room construction and it is one of the many topics which will be covered at an upcoming course on recreation rooms offered by Henry Buildall at Buildall's Oshawa store. Here, Terry Henry, sales and advertising manager, looks over some of the panelling available at Henry Buildall's Courtice store. The rec room course will be held four evenings on November 6, 7, 13 and 14. Fall and winter are seasons when the handyman's thoughts are likely to turn to indoor chores such as fixing up that basement rec room. If you'd like to build a recreation room but aren't quite sure where to start, there's a course in Oshawa that will provide plenty of helpful advice. Offered free of charge by Henry Buildall, the course is being held this November 6, 7, FEELING TIRED? .Tired of high prices, low quality, slow service and little selection? The program takes novice carpenters and handymen through the basics of building - from rough studding to the finished trim. The first part of the course covers tools, planning, waterproofing and framing. The next evening covers insulation, sub floors. panelling and gyproc. Ceilings, floors, doors, and trims are studied in the third evening and in the final night, the newly-trained rec room builders are given advice on the finishing touches and in addition, therp's a draw on the final c.vening with panelling, tools, faucets and other items given away. Draw Drizes are Drovided bv Henrv Buildall's material suppliers. Terry Henry, sales and advertising manager at Henry Buildall, says that both men and women attend the course. In fact, all kinds of persons sold on the idea of doing the work theinselves attend the program on rec rooms. Mr. Henry says that fixing up the basement can be done with comparatively little experience "It's not really that difficult. It's a matter of knowing the things that have to be done," said Mr. Henry. Two managers from Henry Buildall conduct the program along with their assistants. And according to the figures from a class held last month, the program is a growing concern. Between 300 and 350 attended the October course and this month a similar number is expected. Mr. Henry said last week that there's still time to register. Anyone interested can phone their nearest Buildall store in Oshawa, Courtice, Port Hope, Ajax and Whitby. You can also register by writing to the Oshawa store. The amount of time it takes to finish that recreation room of your dreams depends on things like the size of the project and the ambition and skills of its builder. But a good place to start is with the Henry Buildall course in Oshawa this November. The rec room course is an annual event for Henry Buildall. And if you've already got a rec room, you may be interested in the Henry Buildall deck and patio course that is offered every spring. Provincial Parks Close After Successful Year Of Increased Camping Tom sinmith, Park Superintendent The Thanksgiving Weekend marked the end of the regular operating season for Darlington, Serpent Mounds, and Mark S. Burnham Provincial Parks. Balsam Lake and Emily Provincial Parks were closed on Labor Day weekend. Parks staff are now busy closing up and winterizing the parks' facilities. Improvement projects are also being carried out during the winter months. Although the park gates may be closed, you are welcome to leave your vehicle at the park entrance and stroll along the vacant roads and quiet pathways to enjoy autumn's splendour. Total camper-nights to Labor Day inclusive for the four camping parks in the Lindsay District increased two per cent over last year for a total of 217,774. The Lindsay District Parks also accommodated some 77,398 day-users. Parks enforcement staff spent a total of 1067 man- days ensuring a safe, enjoyable visit for the public. Rowdyism occurrences were down 40 per cent over last year. A total of 82 charges were laid under the Provincial Parks Act and Regulations and another 283 charges under other Provincial and Federal statutes. PIGEON LAKE DUCK HUNTERS! W.R. McQuay, Conservation Officer Lindsay District of the Ministry of Natural Resources has received numerous complaints concerning abandoned duck hunting blinds on Pigeon Lake. Blinds built in a previous hunting season, in the rice beds south of Gannon's Narrows, have created serious boating hazards when allowed to deteriorate. The Public Lands Act, section 29, indicates that "Every person who, without the written consent of the Minister or an officer authorized by the Minister, throws or deposits or causes to be deposited any material, substance or thing upon public lands, whether or not covered with water or ice, or both, is guilty of an offence" and "on summary conviction is liable to a fine of not more than $500." Contraventions of the Public Lands Act, such as those previously mentioned, could result in prosecution. Hunters are reminded that duck blinds may still be built in the rice beds, on crown land, but must be removed in their entirety before freeze up. With your co-operation, problems can be prevented and good hunting opportunities preserved for future seasons.
