Pickering competed for the COSSA titie in Peterborough last Saturday. The Cougars finished second in the East Division. CONGRATULATIONS - to Courtice Secondary Sehool junior boys volleyball team who won the Central Ontario Secondary Sehool Association championship in Dunbarton recently, defeating Donevan, Cobourg West, and Crestwood to win the titie. The boys did at times play and skate wéll but not consistently~ enoueh to win the game. One highlight that was in our favor, was the brilliant goal- tendinp shown by Burke Lush on, a pnalty shot awarded to Peerborough. Final score 6 - 2 for Petes. Scoring for the Toros were Gareth Stone with 2 goals. one unassisted and Brad Carnegie one assist. Excellent goaltending by the Peterborough netminder was another major factor which contributed te the loss. Toros Poe Wee 2 Team suffers Disstrous Week The past week has been somewhat disastrous for the Pee Wee No. 2team. On November 1, Bowman- ville once again travelled to Bay Ridges with hopes of finally breaking the jinx, btt came away with thé short end of the score, losing 6 - 3. Scoring for Bowmanville were Jeff Knox from Mark Romard and Steve Baker, Mike Day from Bob McCann and Rick Smith and Brian Grabko from Blob Hellam and David Stone. Once again super goaltending by Pat Mastrangelo kept the score respectable. Saturday, November 3, we again played Bay Ridges. This time on home i ce, ,ut still were unable to come up with a win. Bowmanville's only score was from Mark Romard, unassisted. Sunday, November 4 finally saw a new opponent for BowmanviUle with the teamn going to. Markham. The score at the end of the gamne looked all too familiar as Markhamn took an early lead to defeat us 7 - 2. Bowmanville's goals were Rob Bunker from Mark Romard and Mike Day from Mike Murray and newcollamer Brett Blundell. The highlight of the day was Bowmanville's goaltender Pat Mastrangelo stoppng a penalty shot. On Saturday night in the Memnorial Arena, the Toros' Chris Dreossi sent Bowman- ville into the lead when he scored on a power play, the assist going to defenceman Pierre St. Amand. Tom McLaughlin made it 2 - 0, scoring on a play set up by Brent Neill and defenceman Jon Clieff. Jeff Dawson put the Real Estate crew ahead 3 - 0 when he scored, the assist 1going to Brad Cruess. Less than two minutes had elapsed in the ïam e before he scored the ar goal, the assist going to Brian Heard. Brent Neill scored the second Toro goal, the assists going to Tom McLaughlin and Brad Cru2ess. Chris Lee scored at the 10: 23 mark of the middle period, assisted by Whitmarsh. Bowmanville handed out some stiff bodychecks in the first two periods in an attempt to slow down the Whitby squad but it appeared that this tactic did not work as Whîtby scored five more times by the end of the Second period whereas Toros only scored once more when Mike Knight picked up a loose puck at centre ice and scored on a breakaway. At the end of two the score was 6-2 for WVhitby. The third period though was different as the heavy hitting by Bowmanville started taking its toil as our boys out- hit, out-hustled and out-scored Whitby 4-2. Scorers for Toros wvere Greg Martin, Peter Hughes twice to complete the hatrick and Mike Knight his second. Assîsts went to Peter Hlughes and Warre Short. It was a good comneback by our boys although we fell a littie Short. Centremen Mark Hickey and Kevin Nage! displayed some good playmaking abilities and defensemen Ian Wheelock, Robbie Bail, Warren Short and Chris Moroz contributed good efforts to the cause. Wingers Danny Moriarity, Eddie Paradis and Jay Kelly were frustrated on some good scoring opportunities in this game.
