14 The Canadian Statesman, Country Roads N1ursery School Our first field trip was on October ith. to Ted Watson's farm. Ted, along with his two Percheons, Spy and Mac, took us through the orchard on his wagon. We flot only saw more apples than ever before, but ducks on the pond, tractors, and a. huge haystack. The children learned how to pick an apple properly (they didn't need any instruction on eating them) and why the trees had mini fences around their bases. We stopped mid way through our excursion to discuss and feed Spy and Mac, who although are the same age as some of the children (31/2) are considerably larger! Many thanks to Ted Watson and also Judy Dagg, Dianne McDonald, and Doug Broome who came along to help. On Friday, the twelfth, we followed up our field trip bY making apple sauce. Lorraine Buchan came to school with Brian, to help supervise the whole process. Trudy Broome had taken her turn in our kitchen the week before when we made cranberry sauce. On the sixteenth, Mother Nature co-operated with us stili further by giving us a beautiful day for our visit to Eyman's pumpkin patch. Mr. and Mrs. Eyman had left lots of small pumpkins in the field so the children had the experience of picking their own pumpkin directly from the vine. Mrs. Eyman served us pumpkin squares which will become famous I'm sure. Three kittens enjoyed snack time with us. Special thanks to Mrs. Eyman for making our yearly trip a fun time. Thanks also to Jackie Runza, Lorraine Buchan, and Judy Dagg who accompanied us. On, October eighteenth, Country Roads held Parent - Teacher night. Mrs. Jan Siocombe and Mrs. Laura Robichaud from Block Parents showed the film that is usually shown to school children sometime during the year. Miss Jill Baron, our Public Health Nurse was on hand to meet the parents. Thanks to Joanne Hill, Jackie Runza and Debbie Howe, for supplying the evening's munchies. On October 27th the staff from Country Roads, as well as most other Nursery Schools from Bowmanville, Orono, Oshawa, Cobourg, Pickering, Whitby, and places in between, attended the annual Professional Development Day for the North Shore Branch of the Association 'for Early Childhood Education in Ontario. It was held at R.S. McLaughlin Collegiate in Oshawa. In the miorning we attended workshops, in music, language and creativity. The after lunch speaker was Mrs. Margaret Kidd,- Program Consultant for the Chldren's Service Department of the Ministry of Community and Social Services. October 29th was Chad Dagg's fourth birthday. Chad's mom, Judy brought a cake and we had a Party. Amazing how children neyer get tired of birthday,, cake. Congratulations also go out to Michael Drummond who is the proud big brother of a new baby brother! Athough many of us were beginning to shiver as we witnessed the first brief snow- fal the other day our youngsters let out a mighty cheer! Guess we'll soon be singing Jingle Relis!1 Karen Tordiff, Supervisor Ffrst AgicÂuual Equipment Grads: Kempýtvlle Coliegeý Trinidad, Water Hlanoman- singh was sent to the College by is country's agricultural department.
