This was one of those occasions, with Carl Chambers almost in the Lindsay net while their goalie was flat out in front and two other Eagles nearby just waiting to snare the puck. Firths Fly Pâ In bath games this week we saw some excellent hockey, but witb the adrenalin flawing we also saw tempers flare up and players getting bot under the collar resultiug in a couple of pusbing matches. The only thing comiug out of these littie tantrums was that one of Firth's defeucemen was given a game suspension. They will miss bim for sure next week when tbey play the first place, team.' Iu the first couple affgames this year we had what o ed lifre tbree strong teams and one underdag team, which was Firth's. But uow it looks like the Meat Machine bas put it all together. They are playiug excellent hockey. With tbeir bard bittiug, top goal scoring talent they could bethe team ta, beat this year. But I would nat caunt the other tbree teams out at this stage ln the game. Next week games The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, December 5, 197%99 DeltaFauetMinor PeetVWee Louse t o Makhm,-lie O",Shau Minor Pee Wee Manager Colin Hughes dug up some unused ice time at Manvers Arena on Sunday, November 25th and arranged an exhibi- tion game for our boys agaînst Port Hope Pee Wees. The Port Hope team consisted of eleven and twelve year olds while Toros are only eleven years old. However, we gained some edge back by the fact that Port Hope only had ten boys show Up. Toros took the lead in the first period when Ian Wheelock scored bis first two goals of the season witbin two minutes of each other. The first goal was ably assisted by Barry Newhook and Warren Short while tbe other was scored unassisted. Way to go Ian. Port Hope got their first goal early in the second period but Toros opened up a two goal lead again, when Peter Hughes scored assisted by Ed Paradis., The teams played evenly for the rest of the period but there was no more scaring. Bowmanville then ran into penalty problems when first Greg Martin was sent off for booking, then Mark Hickey was fingered for slashing. Both infractions resulted in Port Hope goals to close the gap 4 - 3 in favor of Toros. Tbe Port Hope boys seemed to get tbeir second wind with these two quick goals and wasted no time in getting the tying goal at the 5:09 mark of the period. In fact Port Hope bad scored tbree goals in three minutes to tie the game. Toros tried to regroup and apply some pressure of their own but time ran out on them when the game had to be called at the nine minute mark of the third, period.' S(ill it was a good effort by our guys. Pce &We 22 Loge To Mord&a Suad A very determined group of boys bit the ice Saturday, Dec. 1 to face the league leading Markbam squad. When the game ended, Bawmanvill~ had come up on tbe short end of a 7-1 decission. In 'the first period on the superb goaltending ofFt Mastrangelo and the stout defensîve four ln front, Bow- manville only relinquisbed one goal witb 30 seconds left in the period. This fact alone shows bow well the team played as Bowmanville was forced to play over a minute witb two in the penalty box. The second period was al Markham's with 3 goals in four minutes, before Riie Smitb put Bowmanville on the score sheet from Bob McCann and Brad Bamsey. From this point on Bowman- ville stood their ground but Markham managed tbree quîck goals in the remaining lasI minute of the third period. A special word should be said for Jeff Knox, David Stone and Bobby Me/Cann wbo took up much of the slack on defence as Brad Bamsey was injured early in the game and saw limited ice time from then on.
