H1e was with the Boston Bruins last year and the year before and given the option of play- ing for the Binghampton Dusters in the AIIL, with a scaled down contract, but decided against it. The 30-year-old O'Brien plans to seIl his bouse in Boston and return to Port Hope, possibly to go into business. No doubt he will be on the Port Hope Flyers basebail roster again this summer. CONGRATULATIONS - to the Newcastle Old- Timers, hockey team and to those who contributed to its success, on a well run tournament. Lakeshore League games on the weekend, battling to a 3 - 3 draw with Cobourg on Friday night, and defeating Whitby-Brooklin 4 - 1 Saturday. On Friday night in the Cobourg Mrena, the Toros came up complete flat after having such a big weekend last week. Cobourg, on the other band, wcre ready for Bowmanville and came out fiying, scored the opening goal at the 8:28 mark of the opening period. Bowmanville's Tom McLaughlin got that one back less than two minutes later, being assisted on, the play by his centreman Lorne Whitmarsh. Witmarsb sent the Toros into the lead at the 2:54 mark of the middle period on a brilliant solo effort, but the home club tied the game just 54 seconds later. Bowmanville's, amazing Lorne Witmarsh again sent bis tcam into the lcad whcn he scored on a pretty play engincercd by Brent Neill and defenceman Pierre St. Amand, but Cobourg was not to be denied as they again tied the game, wîtb 3:59 showing on the dlock. On Saturday night in the Memorial Arena, it started out the same again for Bowman- ville wben Whitby-Brooklin opened the scoring after only 1:18 bad elapsed. At the 2:32 mark ot the same pcriod, at both ends of the rink. Bowmanville opened the scoring atthe 2:30 mark of the first period when Peter Hughes scored with a hard, rising, wrist shot aftcr being set up by Ed Paradis who had received a pass from Mark, Hickey. The two teams played cvcnly through the rest of the first period and haîf way through the second. Toros then încreascd their lcad to 2-0 at the 7:46 mark when Jay Kelly scorcd with assists going to Mike Knight and Robbie McEachern. Bowmanville held their 2-0 advantage until the 9:50 mark of the third period when the Black Hawks finally put one behind Toros goalkeepcr Ken Cameron. However in the spite of some good pressure by Oshawa Toros managed to hang on for a 2-1 win. -.BrockIin 41-1 Brian Heard scored, assistcd by Lorne Whitmarsb and Chris Lee. This goal secmed ta turn the game right around as the Taras started ta play with some gusto, picking up two more unanswVercd goals.
